I don't know how I feel about this though, should have been an AMG Sport if they were just going to throw in an AMG sport engine.

So why didn't they just put the 381 horse 45 engine in it and avoid all the critics? Would have been even lighter.

Looks like an awesome car though. Any word on starting price?

Calling it a 43 is hurting my head a little bit.

Always wanted to get the wife an SLK. Maybe an SLC43 is what will actually get me to pull the trigger.

WRT the "living up to the AMG name" Honestly this thing is probably going to smoke any pre '06 AMG. Period. Those are real AMGs, if this thing was slow as balls i would understand the criticism. But this is probably going to be one of the best cars in the lineup regardless of who signs the card on the engine.

I can see where this is going, somewhat.

You have the SL63 as the entry level and the SL65 as the pinnacle.

SLC43 as entry and SLC55 as pinnacle.

What's next, C43, E43, S43?

First off, there is no card on the engine. Second, the SLK32, with 349hp and much lighter (~3200lbs) was rated faster 0-100. This will probably run circles around the old SLK32 in handling though haha.

Right, makes sense. would be way to much work to turn the engine. To bad really because i think an SLC45 would be INCREDIBLE. Even in 4matic.

I know the SLC demands a premium (like the SLK did) but does this mean we will see this south of 60k? Considering the pricing of the CLA and GLA AMG that doesn't seem completely out to lunch.

Black Series is on hiatus. Tobias Moers (AMG Boss) has said that with the normal AMG cars outperforming the Black Series cars, there's no need for a Black Series for now.

To bad, but not really surprising. They have a pretty fresh lineup right now. Personally i see BS as something they do 3-4 years into the life of a model once they get the kinks out ( not that they really did for yours haha) and want to inject some relevance into the scene.

Overall i think the changes to SLC are good. I hope they do eventually put a V8 in but they have some time for that.

At least when I talk to my MIL about getting an SLC for the wife she won't keep saying "k like k mart" ( referencing the adding the K to the old SL to make it cheap, she loves the SL)

Now i wonder if an SLA could be in the works with a trans engine? Maybe awd. Not sure how they would make it any smaller though.

Where is that Mercedes naming chart again? Does this mean there will be a SLE down the road? Why doesn't SL get rebadged to SLS using the name naming standard? This is screwing with my OCD brain.

PL is actually awesome. I really enjoyed that place when I had my AMG. I wish the M line had something official like that. But yea, when the C450 got announced the members bitched and complained so much that they did not want AMG to make these vehicles. That didn't work obviously but they were able to at least get the PL admins to say that these 'faux' AMG owners won't be allowed to join. lol. I bet that will change soon enough.

About everything to do with 'fake' AMG's, but mostly the fact that AMG decided to go this route in general and devaluing and diluting the AMG brand.
