Shit made before 2000 are way more reliable. All these new effiency furnace has way more electonics and senor failures.

Unless NG goes back over $10, efficiency is pointless.

    Lol, your perma-rage is hilarious

So what's your actual question? How much the running/maintenance costs are?

If you think your delivery charges are high now, wait until they start tacking on the riders to support all the renewable resource growth and killing coal

I got a high efficiency to replace a 42-year old Coleman.

    That thing never went down.

The only thing that pushed me to do the high eff upgrade was the $750 rebate they had for a few years.

At these prices, not only will you never recover the price of the high eff, but you will also continually lose money on the first problem that requires servicing from a tech.

    Go tell our Premier that.

Actually, don't. She'll come up with a policy that inflates the price of NG so efficiency becomes viable again.

Maybe that's what I'll go do. It's good for my pockets in more than one way.

Everything is getting more efficient nowadays. A computer that took up a room and used the equivalent of a gas generator to run a few decades ago can now run in your pocket and run on AA batteries.

She already did, carbon tax is going to raise NG from $2.5/GJ to $4/GJ.

We are also going to change all coal to NG, so your electricity cost based on this increase along will raise by 50%.

Renewable will cost no where near NG or coal either. So expect 15 cents per kwh in about 3 to 4 years.

There's all the decisions the AUC makes that are apparently legal fraud. So fuck off and quit looking for easy answers on Beyond.

Pipelines and power lines are extremely expensive. They're also infrastructure you don't want companies cheaping out on

Why shouldn't there be an easy answer to:

What is the actual cost of new infrastructure, maintenance, etc, and what are we all paying for that?

The infrastructure is super expensive to maintain and develop. ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric are also highly regulated, not some 'setting their own price' entity.

"expensive" is relative, and "regulated" does not by necessity mean fair.

If you don't think it's fair, go buy a generator and go off grid.

All I can say is that there is some labor cost that we can't be as cheap as possible. But other than than, the infrastructure is pretty lean.

And companies like Enmax and TranAlta are union busting to keep the cost low (at least from the IT angle).

Seriously. Seth, do you only want to pay for the power/gas you receive, and not maintain the infrastructure it uses to get to your house? What's your point?

As stated, go spend thousands on a generator and other requirements to go off the grid then.
