    Default 4K Tv suggestion

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to get a 4K tv, but there are many many options and I'm not sure what to get.

Price is a big thing for me, I obviously don't want to spend too much on a tv, but I'm not looking for complete low quality crap either. I don't need something top of the line, so I'm looking for a fair price (800-1300).

I've been looking at Vizio and Samsung screens.

Vizio has very nice prices but I'm not sure if they are worth getting. I really really like Samsung tv's (the quality of picture is superb). But the price tag doesn't appeal. So i'm considering compromising to Vizio. But I don't know much about Vizio.

For those of you with 4k experience, what are your suggestions? Go with Vizio or Stick with Samsung?

I wouldn't waste your money on a 4K TV, very little content available. Media hasn't caught up with the technology yet. Save your money.

I have a 43" Vizio M-Series 4k bought from Costco. It has been great. 4k works very well and it also got good reviews.

Good features but no 3D (don't care), 4:4:4 chroma (don't care) or HDR (not really in many sets now).
If I wanted to spend more money I would have got a samsung but that would have been almost double the price.

I don't really care about 3d, not sure what chroma is though...

There's a 50" vizio @ bb for 900$. Again I'm not sure what the quality of vizio is like, in comparison to something made from samsung.

Might just wait for boxing day to see if any of the samsung prices drop...

I'd rather a higher quality 1080p tv. We just bought a nice 70" LED 1080p tv, it was inexpensive, one year old (used) Panasonic iirc, looks great for the price, at 10' plus viewing distance, there really is no need for better resolution. I can tell, but to most people it makes no difference.

Also as mentioned, where are you getting 4k content from?

"uncompressed, 32gb is going to get you a nice 1 minute and 5 seconds."

A 20 minute youtube clip or 22 minute tv series would be about 640gb.

Netflix/Youtube/Amazon currently have 4k content. Should be expanding more in 2016 and I think 4k bluray is also coming out next year.

Quality is fine, they have been around in the US for a long time. $900 is pretty good price. Might as well wait for boxing day though being so close. Maybe the samsung 7000 will come down more.

4K just isn't worth it yet. Netflix 4k content is low and you have to the higher tiers for it anyways.

When Blueray decides to catch up better tvs and options will be available.

I'm going to get the 60 inch vizio if it's on sale again. I'm looking for the best 60 inch available and the vizio is rated pretty high.

Which other 1080/4K are good currently?

The Samsung J series has good reviews as well.

I don't know about Proscan tv though, but i do have Hisense (Not 4K) and i like it way more then my Samsung. I find the audio on my Samsung is crap without the sound bar. I'm thinking of getting the 55" Hisense 4K.

So? If the content is shit, and the files are so huge as to not be possible to stream/download with a typical internet connection, it means sweet fuck all.

If you need me to do the math for you to spell it out in an even simpler manner...

    640gb video at 22 minutes

Typical internet connection, 25mbps to 50mbps, and you never get that all at once.

25mbps is 3.125MB per second. That will barely, if you are lucky, cover a 4k video. I've rarely seen a 50mbps connection be able to sustain that sort of continuous download speed over the course of 30 minutes, and we're not even talking about peak times.

"Perhaps as an illustration of the low demand for 4K content at present, Panasonic said it plans to make about 500 of the players per month and will sell them at around 400,000 yen (US$3,327)." That Panasonic 4k blue ray player, which isn't even in existence yet, costs $3k+ USD

So again, there is no god damn point in buying a 4k tv for 4k content.

And with shaw yes, I get all my bandwidth available at all times and could saturate it all day if I wanted....
    This is BB60

Netflix has many tv series currently available in 4k so it is worth while for that as there are series I have not watched yet like narcos, house of cards and breaking bad.

4k content should use somewhere along the lines of 15Mb/s so on most internet connections you should be able to run 3 or 4 4k streams all day long. it would blow your bandwidth cap though in less than a week though.

I still can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. 3D and 4k have just been an excuse to sell TV for the last couple of years. This year its the 4k HDR TVs.

How far from the TV do you sit? If 2-3 feet, 4K is worthwhile:

It is like 6 feet so that is one of the reasons I got the 4k and also that good 1080p sets were around the same price anyways.

    Question for you guys:

For a 4k tv, Is a 4k up-scaling blu ray player required? Or would the TV be able to sufficiently upscale the picture of a normal blu ray player?

I ended up buying the Vizio M60 4k tv.

Regardless, soon every TV will be 4K only even if content is lacking.

Your TV should be able to upscale all HD to UHD. Sounds like a good engine too.

Yes, they will all be 4k TV's soon so the debate will end.

That said, my secondary media only monitor is now a 42" 4K Changhong bought for $249. Can only do 4K 4:2:0 at 24 or 30 hz.

As long as you are sure you are not using it for gaming, and only as a media monitor, you can go ultracheap and still get good results.

The 4:2:0 vs 4:4:4 debate is also going strong. What tells me that 4:4:4 is relatively unimportant is that displayport 1.3 supports 4:2:0 at 8K.

"8K UHDTV displays at 7680×4320 (16:9, 33.18 megapixels) using 4:2:0 subsampling at 60 Hz" I personally would rather have 4:2:0 at 60 hz than 4:4:4 at 30 hz.

    Bluray? 4:2:0

Mainland China is actually broadcasting terrestrial 8K.
