    Default Google Drive vs Dropbox

Have been a Dropbox user for 6 or so years now but am considering moving over to Google Drive - mostly for document storage plus the ability to access from three different computers plus my Android. I currently have all of my files easily accessible via Dropbox but am wondering if switching to Google Drive will gain me anything - am also pondering a move to use Google Docs as opposed to the office suites I'm currently using.

So pros, cons? Toss them out there.

They're all the same, just depends what storage plans fit your needs. Dropbox goes straight to 1tb, Google offers 100gb, while iCloud has 50 and 200gb plans.

My gf got a Mac this year and killed her Dropbox sub. Moved everything to her iCloud storage since she has to pay anyways to store all her pics and vids. Saved $12/month.

I use iCloud for my iDevices, but use google drive for work stuff (1tb provided for by work). iCloud is terrible if you use Windows, and Google works awesome on all platforms. Since you're on android, give Google drive a try. Probably much better integration than Dropbox.

I use Google Drive and really like it. As rage mentioned, it works on all devices - Win 7 PC, Win 8 PC, Android phone, iPad.

I prefer Google Drive as well. Very easy to use, drag and drop, lots of storage.

iOS user here, but I hate iCloud.

iCloud is annoying because of terrible Windows support. And the storage isn't shared through family share. Fix those 2 issues and I'd choose it over google drive.

Google Drive is great and easy to use. Especially good integration on Android with widgets etc and across your other Google services. Also available on multiple platforms as already discussed. 15GB free, 100GB $2/month

I use Google Drive and am very happy with it. Very smooth across all platforms, feature-rich and dead simple to use.

Google Drive for me as well. Has 1TB from OneDrive which is like iCloud, only good for Windows systems.

Android phone, Google Drive is it. I'm working as Local Guide for Google Maps and hopefully I can have the 1TB tier service for free.

I was doing this same comparison yesterday. Decided on consolidating everything to Google Drive for ease of use

If you happen to have Google providing your website email through Google Business Apps, and you have fewer than 5 users, then it's 1 TB per user, and it's included. Boom.

Really enjoying the various google apps and how they all work together.

Not enough can be said about how everything is perfectly integrated with google drive and google docs.

I wouldn't say I "love it", especially on the docs end, but google drive itself is basically a gmail version of remote storage. It just works, and it works everywhere on everything.

With Google Apps Unlimited, not the standard business apps.

I've used dropbox for many years. Syncs great on all devices. Google apps is pretty bulletproof. If you have multiple services through Google it's a no brainer to switch, if not, there won't be much noticeable benefit.

Ooops, you are correct. I'm not really using the Drive portion of the apps right now anyway. Maybe I should read my T&C's before I do.

If someone doesn't have Google Drive, can they still access and download files (for example a suite of photos) by using a link? This is what I primarily use Dropbox for.

The one thing I really don't like about Google Drive is that it stores on my C: drive vs. Dropbox I can readily assign a different location. I attempted to do this with GD but I just couldn't get it work properly.

Another question about GD. I have 2 computers I use primarily use for school: a desktop and laptop and they sync no problem. But I will be doing a lot of work using another common computer where I can't save things to the desktop but rather need a USB. Can I install GD onto that USB and have it sync on the USB and then sync when I plug it into either computer? Or do I need another program to sync between my laptop and USB, which in turn will update my GD?

Yes. The sharing is pretty intuitive in the Google Drive web interface.

You just need to use advanced setup instead to choose location.

I wouldn't install GDrive on a common computer. I'd just use the web interface to d/l and u/l the files I need.
