    Default Monitor for occasional gaming

What would you guys recommend for a decent monitor? It's mainly going to be used for browsing but I would like to try CS:GO and possibly other PC games occasionally.

My video card is EVGA GeForce GTX 960 FTW ACX 2.0+ 2GB GDDR5.

I want to possibly get dual 22-24 or one ultrawide.

    Looking at these so far:

    BenQ 24-inch - RL2455HM
    http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007...tronics&sr=1-9

    Dell – U2414H
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...n&sku=860-BBCG

    ASUS - VG248QE

The BenQ I listed is only $199 from Amazon. The price is listed on the side because they are temporarily out of stock.

If you are using a monitor for gaming, make SURE it is capable of 144hz. Or, at least higher than 60hz, 100 to 120hz is fine, however most gaming high hz monitors are 144hz, like the Asus you mentioned in the OP, I've had 3 of those models myself.

I now have triple ROG Swift IPS monitors, and have tried most of the rest included the new Acer Predators. Gsync, IPS over TN/VA, 4k/1440p over 1080p - all of these are great improvements, but none have as much effect IMO as jumping from 60hz to 144hz at 1080p had/has on the gaming experience for the $.

So, if you're not looking to spend 1000$+ on a 4k/1440p gaming LCD, get yourself an Asus or BenQ 144hz from the Azns at Mem Express. I've got all mine there, and they've always honored their warranties (I've only needed it once, but still). Again, I've had a triple screen set up with the 24" Asus 144hz monitors for 3 years until upgrading, and IMO they are the best bang/$ for a gaming monitor out there. It costs triple to move up to 1440p monitors with Gsync that do the same thing, and in my experience a 960 card won't be able to push those LCDs, so go with a 1080p 24" Asus.

LOL not everyone needs a 120hz or 144hz monitor. People are perfectly find spending a few hundred dollars on a plain jane monitor.

This. The whiteys never honor their warranties. Also the Azn price is lower if you order off their special menu.

If you aren't gaming you don't "need" 144hz I suppose, but if you are, the price difference from 60 to 144hz is less than 100$ in many cases, and you're nuts IMO if you don't take advantage of huge, huge increase in visual clarity and FPS you get by doing so.

The Asus 24" in the OP has actually gone UP nearly 80$ since I bought mine in 2012. I paid 260 ish plus tax new on sale for a small discount at MemEx back then for mine. Going from 60hz to that monitor made a world of difference in every type of game out there.

Yes, you CAN game at 60hz, but I have to ask why anyone would want to when 144hz is such little overall cost to get access to. Again, of all the "gaming" type things you can get in a monitor, Gsync, higher resolution, IPS panel type, whatever - none give such a performance and visual boost as 144hz does over 60hz IMO.

You need a fairly powerful gpu to take advantage of a 144hz monitor. The gtx 960 really is not a good match for a 144hz monitor even at 1080p.

Not necessarily true, I used 7950, 680gtx, cards like that which were pretty decent when the 24" Asus 144hz came out, and I played everything at 1080p then, CS GO, all the COD FPS games, StarCraft 2, etc etc. 960 will drive a great many games at mid to high detail at 1080P NP.

If he is on a tight budget and is only gaming casually then theres no point in him throwing money like that when he wont even notice the difference. OP Get yourself a decently rated 24-27 incher and have fun

    Buy a 21*9, makes a big difference in fps's.

It's spendy getting a 144hz that is also ips. TN panel IQ are not worth it, in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind just getting one 144hz monitor as long as my GPU can support it.

Ultrawide 21x9 would be nice but the problem is most are bigger screen sizes. I don't like having a huge screen and sitting up close.

I have a 21:9 and its a pain for 50% of the games out there. Some websites break with it as well.

    I would consider a 144hz 27" if I had to chose again.

I think saying that 50% of games are a pain is a pretty broad statement. Blizzard games besides wow are the only ones that don't support natively. Curious about "breaking" websites- never seen anything like that either.

I would say it might be something specific to your set up.

I'll list the last 10 games I've played and which works with 2560x1080. I'm computer literate, I just have a funky resolution that is shared with 0.05% of the gamers out there.

Standard resolutions are a much better choice.

Starcraft 2- No, they recently disabled all 21:9 as you mentioned.
    Borderlands pre-sequel - Yes natively
Binding of Issac - Kind of.
Crypt of the Necrodancer - Kinda, like isaac, streched hud, doesnt really increase play area
AC Syndicate - Yes, problems in some areas, but ok.
    Rocket League - Native
Metal Gear Solid 5 - No
Dark Souls 2 - works with hack, hud streched, possible VAC ban
Batman Arkham Knight - works with editing INI file, many issues, havent tried recently.
    Elite Dangerous - Native
