If I wasn't established in Calgary I would move to VCI in a heart beat. Low cost of living, slowed down lifestyle, no snow.. It would be great.

Vancouver Island isnt as cheap a place to live as you think. When you live there you find it can actually be a pretty fucked up place at times as well.

I don't know, oil is almost $38 today... maybe things will start getting better for Calgary soon.
Wow what kind of company do you like to keep? !?!Originally posted by Sugarphreak
I grew up there... nice place to visit, but the novelty wears off when you notice the excessive heroin use, entrenched organized crime, and gang problems
What part did you grow up in? Nanaimo? My mom is retired in Victoria and I try and visit her a couple times a year. Any time I go it's just newly weds and nearly deads.Originally posted by Sugarphreak

Agreed. It's a messed up place but the tourism and beauty hides it all. Just open your eyes and do non tourist stuff, you'll see.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
Nothing to do with the company you keep, If you live there long enough you can’t avoid it
Campbell River area
I visit quite a bit, but if I stay more than about a week I start seeing all the reasons why I left
Nanaimo actually took the "Heroin capital of the world" title for use per capita from CR about 10 years ago.
Good article for people who don't know:

Suppose you could live out of a camper van and bank the $ or live on a job site if they'd allow.
They hide drugs in the logs.
Imperial out of retail now. Bye, Esso:

Pretty sure they'll keep the name.
They sold the remaining 497 company-owned stations. There are a total of 1,700 stations operating under the Esso brand.
Going to be 7/11's?
Exactly, they are out of the day to day operation and turn into franchise based support. I'm surprised they hung on for that long to get out of the retail game.Originally posted by realazy

Gas retail margin is so low that ever since grocery stores started gas stations as loss leaders, these independents just couldn't compete.
That said, I assume this deal is for the physical locations and hardware. They are probably not all going to continue to be Esso as Mac's align themselves with Petro Can.

Cenovus - April 7. More layoffs.
Why do companies do that, have some sort of announcement that the axe is going to fall so people have time to stress about if they will be a statistic?
