I've heard CNRL is negotiating to buy all 52,000 BOE/day (i think) thats up for sale.Originally posted by SkiBum5.0
Are we sure Husky hasn't sold their Western Canadian assets? They've been for sale for a while.
^ you and I are reading from the same book. I thought Crescent Point at first would be a good candidate but CNRL is always a front runner
It's easier to handle the situation and avoid doom and gloom once you accept the fact that you're going to be laid off, plan accordingly (save that money), and treat every day your card still lets you in to the building as a bonus. Have a plan in place for when the day comes, then you don't have to worry about "what if" anymore, just, "when it happens, I'll do this, this, and this".Originally posted by Neil4Speed
I have been finding the general doom and gloom attitude to be difficult to handle on a day to day basis. I get it, we shouldn't be running around high-fiving blasting Money for Nothing, but lets get some perspective here in that we are sitting in nice office towers not the Tom Baker Cancer center.
And you're right, when you look at all the shitty things that can happen in life, an economic downturn that bumps you from a nice six figure O&G job to an average five figure job elsewhere for a few years really isn't the end of the world. If you can plan accordingly, live below your means, and save your money (I know these are novel concepts for most of us Albertans), you should be able to keep your home and feed your family through it all, and that's really all that matters. It's funny you mention the Tom Baker Cancer Center, as seeing a loved one in there really helps to realign your ideas of what actually matters.
Chevron just bought a bunch of packages. E-houses/Gens. Couple peculiar heat trace units.

Forgive me for being ignorant, what does this mean? What is a "package"?Originally posted by R154

I think its field facilities type equipment packages?
Implication being they are planning imminent activity of some kind?

Package being complete functioning equipment like generators/compressors/instrumentation equipment inside of a free standing building which will be put onto a foundation and fixed at a destination.
Generally these are "packages" that only get built in places where the end user is reasonably certain they will be requiring the power/instrumentation/process for longer then 5-10 years.
This is a good indicator that this company is particular is planning on either expanding, or keeping current operations on that site at the levels pre-crash.
They have requested more equipment, with shorter deadlines from many constructors as well.
Just saying.

I'd hazard to say so yes. That's their most active area. Their other assets in NEBC are either duds or too expensive to tie into anything.Originally posted by JamMan23

30% laid off today, O&G equipment fabrication shop.
it was said we were down to skin and bones during our last layoff, but we are truly down to skin and bone now.
We need to start a "Who's Hiring" thread to turn this frown upside down
I can eat more hot wings than you.

They're buying lots of power. No CHP so they may very well be looking at boilers.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
If that is it, it just sounds like pump station or other small mid-stream work
Let me know when they start buying boilers! Those are usually the first long lead items for SAGD facilities
I want to see if COS will chime in about if durty utility is planing some moves.
Then again CHP = at best low grade steam.

The company I work for is looking for a manufacturing quality engineer, with preference to people with manufacturing or design experience. I am willing to give a reference to long standing members.
