Default Do you have plans to stay in Alberta if there is a long-term downturn?

Given the recession and large amounts of people who are here for a paycheque/work, how many of you are planning to stick it out in Alberta if oil stays low in the long term (5-10 years) and wages/opportunities drop to the point where there's no longer an Alberta advantage?

Will always call Alberta home and would raise a family here.

Would however love to work elsewhere temporarily!

I've lived here for over 30 years, consider this place home even though I didn't come out of a vagina in Alberta. Just another bust cycle. Haven't moved before, don't plan on moving now.

Older I get, being a snowbird get more tempting.

It's still relatively cheap cost of living (for now). If it ever get within 10% of BC, then will re-evaluate.

I'm not going anywhere, born and raised. But I have no issues if the fodder want to leave. Just so long as they don't come back. And they can take Nenshi with them.

Yea, give me another 20 years when I don't have to raise kids or work anymore. Then I might move somewhere else.

Family has been in Alberta for 120 years. Not going anywhere anytime soon.

    x2.

My great great grandfather settled the Hamlet of Plamondon, AB, and I can trace my lineage much further back than that.

I don't plan on ever leaving Alberta as my primary residence.

People I talk to range between retirement plans elsewhere to jumping at the first chance to make equivalent pay elsewhere. I think it's because I don't come across many people born and raised here.

If it turned longterm, I think my family would either downsize and stay or move to BC or somewhere else. It all depends on the long term outlook which no one can predict. I'd be interested to know what the oil/gas players are hiring at salary wise over the next couple of years. See it it comes down to what other industries pay.

I'd like to move, but the oldest child will probably go to a GATE school, and also my wife's uncle is thinking of giving her the family farm when he gets too old to take care of it.

Like to move to BC, but their school systems are uneven at best, and I'd have to put the oldest into a private school.

I'd have a hard time leaving, but entirely because of friends and family. If it wasn't for the people I know, I would've done the expat route years ago. I've seen lots of the world, and while Alberta's a decent place to live, there's nothing at all special about it.

Born and raised here, and can't wait to leave. The climate here is ridiculous. I can take my income with me wherever I go.

    Planning. So we wait.

Lambo F430's fetch a pretty penny at international auctions btw.

Been here 10 years and 20 years in AB, so I'm ready to go somewhere else if there's an opportunity.

I'll still stay here if I won the lotto because of friends and family.

I just will live life stress free and do stuff I love 24/7.

On a sidenote, has an actual Beyonder won the lotto? Almost 14 years and still no winner winner chicken dinner?

The more people that leave, the better I'll like it. Don't let the door hit them on the way out.
