Pretty impressive specs for the $30k USD price. Looks like a little Toyota Matrix.
Good job GM for beating Telsa to the middle-class EV market.

Tesla doesn't have the muscle to fight. Everyone is doubling the battery capacity while Tesla is still building battery pack that's a decade old.
That said, at least Tesla kicked started the industry, even if it will eventually be phased out.

Exactly what I said years ago in the Tesla stock thread.Originally posted by Xtrema

2 years out before the Model 3 becomes reality. They're getting left in the dust.

Looks like quite the competitor on paper. Kinda cheesy how they copied the BMW i3 side rear window (D-pillar?) pinched design.
Tesla still has that whole Apple-like following though so we'll see how it plays out in sales.
a rearview camera will provide an unobstructed view (unless the roads are a mess like 5 months a year in calgary)
1 pedal driving does seem interesting.
iOS is only available from Apple. Not sure what Tesla bring to market that is exclusive.Originally posted by ExtremeSi

If you watch how Apple never really gain ground over the years...

The D pillar pinch while not original, also not exclusive to i3. Both Murano and RX350 has them now.
I know, I just mean that Tesla has a very loyal following, especially with non-car people. Their marketing and hype-machine is on par with Apple's.Originally posted by Xtrema

They have a loyal following, but not everyone can afford a 6 figure EV. Tesla is a ways off from retailing a Model 3, and that's assuming there are zero delays (not bloody likely).

320km range and 30K? That's pretty outstanding. I'd still prefer the Volt, but for the price this is a really usable entry-level EV.
Silly argument, hell using your logic how cheesy is it that a number of manufacturers are copying the old AMC Gremlin C-pillar look these days.Originally posted by ExtremeSi

You're telling me there weren't some GM designers looking at the i3 and thinking, hmmmm the closer we can make it look like that, the more consumers will know it's an electric car and like it?Originally posted by speedog

Kinda like how Honda imitated the design of the Prius when they designed their Insight.
I'm just saying, in my opinion it looks like GM intentionally took a styling cue from the i3 so consumers will make the link in their brains without realizing it.
Yupp and as most people just putt around town on a daily basis, that 320km range and hopefully accurate pricing makes it a very appealing vehicle all of a sudden.Originally posted by BerserkerCatSplat

But, and this is a big but, I suspect that this EV vehicle will probably be almost double the price of a similarly equipped gas powered comparable vehicle. Hell, a Chev Spark EV is double the price of the gas powered Spark 1LT model it's based off of - granted, the Spark EV is not a pure electric vehicle but that extra 15-16,000 dollars in the case of a Spark EV is a lot of money that needs to be saved in the operation of an EV..
I am confident that owning this is still more expensive than owning a fit or a fiesta over the life of the vehicle.
It has the performance of the Fiesta ST (with no lag), which is around the same price.Originally posted by dirtsniffer

It has a super powerful sprayer and they made the coating on the camera lens dirt phobic. So says the PK specialist at the booth.Originally posted by dirtsniffer

30k USD after incentives... which we don't get here unfortunately
Focus ST is $30K. This will be around $45K (if it's coming to Canada). Still without incentive, it's hard to swallow.Originally posted by A790

So ROI is 8 years without government incentives.
Alberta can't afford incentives right now, even if it does, it'll probably tie to income now like Cali is doing.
300 km range in the summer, but it's going to be atleast halved in the winter. Great concept but I think battery technology needs to improve before EVs are feasible for Canadians
I thought the same, but a study done about EVs in Norway showed that if the car is plugged in (and the battery low heat going) you dont lose all that much.Originally posted by nobb
