    Default Palm Springs

    ATTN BEYOND OLD PEOPLE!!!

Has anyone spent any time in Palm Springs?

I know Palm Springs has typically been an "old people" vacation city but I have been noticing some pretty nice houses on VRBO and AirBNB and given the moderate weather, amount of sun they get, mountain views and what seems to be a pretty decent place to relax... I have been considering it.

Has anyone been? We would be going as a family (2 kids - 3 and 6) and was wondering if anyone who has been there has any suggestions as to what to do down there.

Granted I am completely fine sitting next to the pool with a good book and BBQing all day, but my wife and kids might get a bit restless.

    Any suggestions?

Drinking by the pool, there's a couple of date farms. The mountain is close if you want to go up and go for a hike. There's the casino downtown but they still smoke in there. Some street festivals throughout the season as well. Golf. The kids will like the zoo, they can ride a camel.

I have been to Palm Desert a few times. Usually just relax by the pool, go hiking on some of the reserves ($$) or Coachella Valley Preserve (free). Downtown ps night market, joshua tree state park, outlet mall at Cabazon.

My In-laws own a house out there in Rancho Mirage. Beautiful place I love going there. Weather is awesome. We go at least Twice a year. love going there every time. Shopping was great not so much right now with the weak dollar. Would highly recommend going though!

been there a few times (and i'm not old) My uncle-in-law owns a place there that is actually on VRBO https://www.vrbo.com/372340 its a beautiful place, love going there, weather is great, its not super crowded, but has everything you need within a reasonable distance, and my wife loves the outlet mall thats not far from there.

you will need a car for sure, and make sure you check out Tylers, its an outdoor burger joint, its great, just make sure you check to see if they are open, they close for a while in the hot months because its just too hot for people to sit outside for an hour.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Parents spend their winters down there, try to visit at least once every year.

I'm happy to sit by the pool most of the time Maybe a couple games of golf.

Lots of stuff to do though, most of which has been mentioned. Its really the Palm Springs area, lots of things go on in the surrounding area. There's a few race tracks close by Chuckwalla, Fontana check their schedules see if anything interesting is happening. The tram is cool, make a day of it with a hike at the top.

Remember L.A and the coast is a pretty close drive.

PS is really nice in winter and thats why theres a whack load of albertans who spend their winters there. Flights can be pretty cheap and are short. Good thing about PS is the temps in winter and how close it is to LA if you for some reason want chaos on your trip.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Wife and I go once a year and sometimes twice if we are lucky and I love it. Its on of the few places I can go to actually relax. Theres some stuff to do there but not a lot so its an easy place to just take it easy. A lot of businesses are closed in the summer months as the heat keeps most shoppers away but food/booze is super cheap (get a Ralphs card) and once you get the hang of the main roads, commuting is quite easy. As others have said, if you want stuff to do, you can drive to LA, Riverside, Disneyland etc.

I just pick up cheap beer and loiter by the pool. If Oasis jumps in on this thread, he knows that place inside and out and can provide answers to any questions you have.

Lots to do, as mentioned hiking, golfing, the tramway, and possibly the nicest airport you'll ever see.

didnt really like PS as I'm not the type of person that likes to spend the day lounging by the pool hence why I've never been interested with Phoenix either.

Joshua Tree NP is the only thing I liked about the area, other than that we were just driving to LA or SD
