I saw it and wondered what it was as well. Could have been the reflection of the sun as it was setting.
As per reddit - probably contrails of an airliner that passed overhead. One could do a flight tracker and turn back the clock about 5 minutes prior to the photograph time and see which aircraft it was.
Upper level winds can be turbulent or laminar.

I saw this as well, I saw something similar around the same time a week ago - except there was two of them side by side. I used to think it was just an airforce jets doing a practice run towards banff as they always seem to be going (falling) that direction.

It was an airliner heading from East to West. I was working that night and also saw it.
Apparently this was somekind of a fireball/meteor thing. It was shedding glowing parts on its way down.
It was captured in motion (it wasnt a static cloud).
I saw the exact same thing today, south of Aspen, what appeared to be just east of Elbow Springs in the sky. Looked identical. Obviously an airliner of some sort.
Yea that was my first inclination as well.
The clowns at CTV did not specify if the RASC actually SAW the event or just commented on it from photographs shown them.
I havent been able to find a video of it yet, but one image shows a piece coming off it (as was mentioned by many witnesses).
