This Fossil (link) is a dead ringer at $115, even replicated the hands, brushed case though.

I'm pretty sure that Conqueror is a replica of the Fossil model. Pretty bizarre that they copied the Fossil watch, and charge more money for it.

I don't mind the current Fossil watches actually. The leather band feels pretty darn close to my Hirsch bands I've used as replacements on a different watch. The battery life on the reserve doesn't last worth shit though.

    I have this one here:

Better to save up a little more and buy a "real" watch, something that is worth something a few years later. I have so many esq, Nixon, fatlace, watches that I bought years ago that aren't worth anything and are just sitting collecting dust.

The point I was trying to articulate with this post is that fashion watches are frowned upon by the industry for a reason. Conqueror and Fossil have both purchased a watch from a third party manufacturer, slapped a logo on it, and called it theirs.

If you go to the conqueror website and find this watch listing, it's essentially a bunch of nonsensical drivel. It's also deceptive, as it tries in earnest to sell you on the authenticity of the brand.

Yet, beside it is a watch less than half the price... and it's nearly identical in every respect.

at what price point does a watch become real?

helps to have all kinds of watches imo, since I started wearing them I've gotten so used to the feel I insist on having one on all the time (also need to hide my watchband tan in the summer) but wearing a Movado Museum on the floor for a concert or a Hamilton when I'm helping somebody move doesn't seem right

used to be that cheap watches just looked tacky, my old Fossil looks obviously shit even from a distance. the new ones have come a long way, it's nice to have options in that <$200 bracket that aren't embarrassing to wear

I don't have a fossil watch but I like other products from them.
Buying a watch as an investment? That seems silly to me. My skeleton kenneth cole watch seems to be doing the same task as any other watch and I'm not concerned with its value down the road

I buy watches to wear, but in my line of work, my daily driver is a G-shock and my other watches barely get any wrist time, yet I still continue to buy them lol

That being said, I've had a ton of watches over the years and I stand by the "you get what you pay for " motto because like someone else said, the battery life is shit and the build quality is shit.

Until I see that from the Citizens, Seiko and even TAGs that I have had, my opinion is strong with that motto and I will continue to purchase said brands based on my experiences.

My G-shocks tend to get a lot more attention in public compared to a friends expensive watches.

My biggest beef with cheap watches is the mineral coating vs. sapphire crystal. The mineral face gets scratched so easily you do have to be quite careful, which is only a matter of time in actual use before it starts looking like crap.
