This is why Donald Trump will win the republican nomination and might even become president.

For 99% of the population the world is flat as the reality is under your feet. You don't lay the foundation of a house with the idea that the world is round.

Likewise, 99% of people don't know what exactly is in their chicken nugget or titty implant, nor do they care if its infact real or not - as long as they are happy with the final product.

So - If people really want to believe in a flat world its fine by me. If people really want to believe that man landed on the moon, its pretty much ok with me too.

Whatever keeps people happy is usually the right way to go, but its important to know that what keeps people happy is not always true.

As a realist, the world is flat as suits my needs for everything but airtravel. My Chicken nugget is made of chicken as suits my need to believe it is meat.

So when I fly on aircraft, that curvature of the horizon is just an optical illusion caused by the window

Also, those ships that sail off and disappear over the horizon, just sink every time.

Maybe not a house but curvature (AutoCad combined Scale Factor) does come into play with regards to warehouses/malls and bridge construction.

Sure, but its not really necessary knowledge for a vast majority of people in everyday reality, or even sometimes a lifetime of reality.

    That's why we have specialists.

If everyone knew what the core of Pluto was made of, and the thirteenth song on the Eagles hit album - technically we would all be stupid because our heads would be filled with more or less completely useless information.

The worst can be considered religious experts, arguing about whether Satan has a three pronged pitchfork or a whip, and wears red or black when hes dining on souls in hell. Which BTW: I side with black and whip, like the Balrog.

Is knowing the world to be round all that important? Not really, especially if you don't have clean drinking water (like Detroit, or other third world areas)

And Neil DeGrasse Tyson's nephew releases a diss track to B.o.B.

WTF happened to rap music where we're dissing each other over science ???

Actually, he has quite a few conspiracy theory songs. but normally he isn't so combative about it.

This isn't for publicity. Dude is straight nuts.

and dangerous. his idiocy will likely spread to at least a handful of his fans...and spreading that kind of disinformation is dangerous. as if people in the US weren't already stupid enough.

And this is why I'm happy that Trudeau took the time to meet with Decaprio - you need to nip these things in the bud before it gets worse.

Celebrities have an incredible influence on us for some fucking reason (which I can only equate to the general public being full of easily-swayed morons). Like when it comes to what car to buy, or golf balls, various charity endorsements etc, but now they're influencing the public on science - need I remind everyone about the retard Jenny McCarthy?

Politicians are doing the same thing and it's just asinine that the general public seems to think, "yep that sounds about right because I recognize their name."

He is no more or less nuts than people that believe man landed on the moon nearly fifty years ago.

Blind faith in science is dangerous. If you cannot prove it yourself, then how do you know its true.

Water does not boil at 100 Celsius in Calgary. The world is not a sphere, it is an elongated along the equator by a not insignificant 42.77 kilometers due to spin, moon, and magnetic force.

Einstein could have (and sort of did) argue that the world is flat if you could not see the stars because that is the limitation of human perception at any given point in space and time. Given limited data, you cannot make certain assumptions.

And: Earthquakes can be attributed to Supermoons.
