Default Piped in sounds or not

So while donating platelets, I was reading a Motortrend article on the new Focus RS that is coming over here and I was surprised to see that 1/3 of it's engine sounds will be piped in via it's speakers. That got me wondering how many vehicles are out there like that now and do people really care.

Thus this poll with numerous choices.

I'm not even sure how to answer my own poll as engine sounds in a car really have never been a big deal to me.

I am curious though what happens if you turn your sound system down or off, do you still get the engine sounds or are they controlled separately or do you have no control over them?
    Will fuck off, again.

Disabled it in the GTI cause it was annoying.
Leave it on in the Golf R cause it sounds much nicer and the wife likes it.
Removed the pipe in the BRZ cause it didn't sound very good and I like a quieter cabin.

    Where's my poll option?

My Lexus RC-F has it in Sport+ mode. No way to disable it. It's pretty quiet and not really noticeable so I live with it.

Leave it on in the GTI cause I like it. None of my other cars have it.

None of my cars have it but when driving a friends 16 GTI I quite enjoyed it, especially in sport mode.

I don't really understand why manufacturers have done it?
    Curious why people like it.

I guess I haven't been in a vehicle that I've noticed it in. 4/5 vehicles I've owned had louder exhausts. The other one was boring and wouldn't matter to me if more sound was generated when I floored it.

Also have the symposer in my 2GF, and the kits available to delete it are readily available. Seems that the 'stereo' crowd want to kill it ASAP...some indifferent (me)....and some that love it.

It's fucking gay. Let's deaden the shit out of cars and then pump fake noise into the cabin to offset that.

No road noise, but still hearing the engine is a great combo.... Still need to hear what the engine is doing while driving hard. Dunno if I've ever experienced the stereo version though... But actual sound just redirected isn't really a big deal for me

Aristo has a full 4" exhaust from the turbo back and a screamer of a turbo under the hood
M5 I removed the stock mufflers after 3 days of ownership and has 8 throttles under the hood
540i is straight piped and has 8 cylinders of mediocrity under the hood
Civic has a full aluminum headerback with only a motorcycle can on the back and VTEC YO

For me a lot of the appeal of the hobby is making glorious noises.

For me, you just can't beat the raw, actual noise of the engine. The two vehicles I own, one is quiet and "civil" for day to day driving, but my Protege, I love how "raw" it is. It's horridly uncomfortable to drive in traffic, it rides stiff as shit, the clutch is on or off, but get it out on a real road and you've never had so much fun!

I think a lot of manufacturers try to build a performance car that you can still drive to work Monday to Friday. Kudos to them, but to me piping in engine noises either through the stereo or through the use of a sound tube is bogus. Hate to say it, but GM nailed it with the exhaust flaps that debuted on the C6 Z06. Quiet when you want it to be, but push a button and it's a menace.

I think it's great for daily drivers. You can have it quiet on the inside and outside during the commute, and set it to make some noise inside when you feel like it and still keep it quiet outside to attract less attention.

This is taking it to a whole new level. Renault Clio has 6 different selectable engine sounds.

So these 'piped in sound' are they just intake and exhaust sound that's channeled into the cabin via a tube? Or the car audio actually play some pre-recorded intake and exhaust 'track' via car speakers depending on rpm?

edit: nvm, just read the thread again and answered my own question.

I don't mind it as long as it's done in good taste. I think my car has soundaktor, exhaust flap and speaker enhanced lol.

I don't think I would like it. Every time someone told me that the car sounded nice I would have to say. 'Thanks I upgraded to the premium 8 speaker stereo. '
