    Default DRL: Drone Racing League

Any beyonders have an FPV racing drone?

I hope this picks up and the drones eventually get weaponized like mario cart lol

I have one for aerial photography and one 250 racing class one. But no fpv gear at this time. Also have a 450 class v-tail but haven't gotten it airborne yet.

Pretty sure we're not allowed FPV in the great republic of canuckistan.

Course enforcement doesn't happen so... Game on!

I'd say its already became pretty mainstream being the amount of events that are held and all the different leagues that are already established. I went down to cali for the US nationals last summer. It was an absolute blast.

I'm pretty heavy into building and flying these things. I have 5 different 250's going

    2- 5"props, 3s, 1806motors
    1- 6" prop, 3s, 1806
    1- 5" prop 4s, 2204
    1- 6" prop 4s, 2204 (1900kv)

Although IMO FPV is a must (and I might even go further to say that goggles are) and you cant really compare flying these things by LOS it really is a vastly different experience.

I've also got a pile of bigger drones but 90% of the time I'm flying the mini's they are just so much fun and people seem to be alot more confortable with the little mini drones being flown around where as the big ones seem to make people uneasy... Although they all bring attention.

What's it cost to build a decent 250? I'm heavy into the rc trucks , started with a phantom for air

The actual crafts themselves are fairly cheap its all the other stuff to go with them that really jacks the price up(fpv gear, radio, batteries). Fatshark goggles start at 300$us and thats for the entry level ones.

Heres my breakdown on what I spent to build the green one above. (in US currency)

    Basics
    ZMR250 Frame 28$
    DYS SN20 18$ea (x4)
    Sunnysky 2204 22$ea (x4)
    Naze Acro 29$
    FlySky Reciever 25$
    Props ~1$ (ea)(x100 lol)

    FPV
    Sony FPV camera 38$
    Aomway 600mw VTX 28$
    Antenna 12$
    Filter 4$

    Optional
    Coloured Nylon hardware 10$
    Power Distrubution Board 20$
    Minim OSD 15$
    Mobius 70$
    3d Printed camera mount 19$

    Peripherals
    Fatshark Dominator V3 -379$
    Dominator Module 69$
    Taranis Radio 249$
    Batteries 18-45$ea

And don't expect to carry any skills over that you have learned on your phantom. They really are completely different beasts and any phantom pilot I've given a shot at flying in acro mode has lasted about 10sec before losing control... Phantoms are pretty much idiot proofed(you operate a phantom not fly it...) and have a very different control scheme than racers.

I'd recommend getting a a little micro acro indoor quad to practice on (something like the blade nano qx or inductrix) as you will acutually learn to fly.

Imersion RC does have their vortex race quad that is a pretty good turn key solution for about 800$ dollars

I know what you mean, I fly the race quads on my flight sim and they handle completely different . Where do you go for flying them?

I just picked up a Parrot Bebop. I'm enjoying flying it so far.

I could see myself getting a racing version when I can fly this one proficiently.

See these things are so bad ass.

But I think I am too old now to have the reflexes to fly one of these with any skill.

bad choice my dude if you're using the bebop's camera, doesn't produce high quality videos when compared to the phantom or inspire 1 but then again it's a good entry level photographer/videographer drone on a budget

I agree, a DJI P3 or 3DR SOLO would have been much better for the small price increase

Actually, DJI P3 stanard is only $729 now . ($670 a few weeks back)

    way better value than BeBop.

But I think BeBop is smaller and lighter, so probably less to worry about when it crash or hit someone.

Yeah, I am not overly impressed with my Bebop to be honest. The camera is extremely laggy and the quality isn't as good as advertised. Battery life blows.

Looked like a good buy at the time.
