    Default Watch repair - Lumtec

Any recommendations for local repair on a lumtec?

Was losing 1-2 minutes a day for last little while then over a long weekend it went completely dead so I assume its just a dead battery (although its only 26 months old).

I've always taken my shitty watches to the Bay but would like this one looked at a little more carefully. Also have the option to mail it to lumtec but seems excessive for a battery (assuming its just a battery).

What does the caseback look like?

Are there little screws that you can remove yourself or are there slots where you need a caseback tool?

If you want it done properly, take it Andre at the Swiss Watch Clinic (corner of 14th street and 17th Ave), Joe at Sears Watch repair in southcentre or perhaps Brinn at Calgary Jewellers.

I would avoid any mall kiosk, or mall type jewellery store. Otherwise, there is a chance you will get a careless person opening the back and something could get scratched.

Finally, I think the best option is to go to Kens Gems in the Northeast (or order from Amazone.ca) and buy a caseback removal tool for $25, a Renata battery and some silicone grease.

    http://www.amazon.ca/Piece-Watch-Rep...MMFRJ9NBN5214C

You can put duct tape on the caseback in case you slip with the tool. Swapping out the battery is easy and you can put some silicone grease on the caseback gasket just to be safe.

If you are planning on taking it in the water, you could get it pressure testing for peace of mind.

I have the M67, and I thought it had a lifetime warrant? Or maybe just timing adjustments. If you got yours from Wrist Weapon maybe shoot them a PM, I'm sure they can help you out, unless you want to stay local if so, let me know in case I need repair/ adjustment in the future.

Could very well have. I haven't seen or used him for anything watch related for a few years now.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. I take very good care of my watches and I'm really disappointed with their service in that my "Sapphire crystal" is scratched to shit.

I called them on it a while ago and this was while in warranty and they just said that it was my fault and that it would cost $80 and shipping to get it replaced.

I'm sure it my fault because I'm the one wearing it, but I have no idea what could have caused the scratches to be that bad.

I just left it and never called them back.

You have multiple scratches on the sapphire or just one?

I've only owned one watch with a scratched sapphire crystal and it was done by the previous owner. I've shattered a sapphire crystal before, but have never managed to put a scratch on one.

So essentially they're selling it as sapphire but it's not is what I'm hearing?

Are you sure it's not a mineral crystal? Those scratch fairly easily. I can't see how anyone could get multiple scratches on a sapphire crystal short of dragging it against silicon-carbide building bricks.

Isn't this why people in THIS THREAD said you should only buy "Real" watches. Not these imaginary ones.

I managed to scratch the sapphire on my Daytona. Not sure how since I am usually careful and don't contact anything that I would think is harder than the sapphire.

As far as the Lum-Tec, is it possible that the scratches you are observing are on the anti reflective coating rather than on the sapphire itself?

It's very possible that it's just the coating. In this case, how could one get that fixed because it really bugs me. I'll try and take a pic.

Is there consensus on where to bring a Lum Tec?
I gave mine a good knock coming around the corner in the office and now it doesn't run consistently.

Those scratches appear to be in the AR coating on the crystal. If they really bother you, you could remove the anti reflective coating with some polywatch, a soft cloth and some elbow grease. However, you would then get some glare off the crystal when you looked at it.
