Google should buy this guy, he has done more to make me want to stick with Nest than they have in years.

Nest is kind of sad lately.
I read this thread weekly. Daily updates of people jumping ship from Nest over something so simple (ability to use G-Suite accounts with Nest).

    https://support.google.com/googlenes...12557385?hl=en

Since you can't create Nest accounts anymore, everyone buying a new nest product today that's also using a G-Suite account home or corporate has to create a standalone Gmail account to use Nest products that disconnects you to your digital identity.

@killramos @spike98 Moving this to the HomeKit thread.
Homekit just needs an Apple TV (4 or greater) or an iPad at home to be your "hub" to create scheduled automations and remote access. After that just get homekit compatible devices and you're good to go. Without a either of those as a hub you can still control everything from home with HomeKit, just no automation or remote access.
So essentially to get zwave integration, i just need to go with a r-pi, a zwave board, and something like z-way?

I really dont want to replace a ton of devices in my new house that are already zwave ready but not homekit compatible.

Getting a kick out of watching my Starling hub literally drive around the Bay Area in circles amid this Covid nonsense lol

haha I went through that too. It doesn't show anything after this, as tracking sits with Canada Post and USPS sends them no location info, just summaries.

Looks like I got lucky, slip just showed up in the mail saying it’s at the post office. Apparently I owe duty 16 bucks of duty which isn’t surprising. More irritating that I have to go to the post office than anything.

Weird. Did it go thru usps Canada post? Mine did. No duties just like every Canada post package from the US.

USPS Canada Post yup. Maybe the prices went up and became dutyable? Or maybe it’s a USMCA duty change I don’t know.

Any of you guys have or figured out any “smart” in floor heating controllers?

I have one bathroom where the controller is fried and another one which is on a dumb controller that doesn’t even have scheduling built in. Considering they are electric I figure there might be a decent energy savings prize to going with something smart here.

Ideally I want something nest style that can factor in whether we are home or not into hearing settings. But not sure if this exists.

This one came out late last year.

    https://www.getmysa.com

It's HomeKit compatible so you can leverage HomeKit's automations to trigger a specific temperature if everyone leaves the house, or if first person comes home, etc.

That is literally perfect thanks Rage. You used one?

I’ll just have nest trigger home/away temperature settings. Easy.

Haven’t used it. I’m too poor for in floor heating lol.

I follow HomeKit alerts and remembered this from last year. Canadian company too!

It would be nice if HomeKit could tie to maps, and see that you’re setting a destination home and kick it off.

Can you utilize Siri shortcuts to do this? make one that activates hvac setting at home and sets a destination in maps.

I remember seeing a video of a guy that put an NFC tag in his car.

He gets in, taps the tag, auto routes to home, activates his home automation, etc.

Damn, looks like you can! It uses prediction tho, not set destination. Well I guess it uses destinations as part of the prediction. More shit to toy with!

For those with the Starling Home Bridge like @killramos and I, the latest firmware exposes Nest Hello face detection as motion sensors in HomeKit. So now you can create a HomeKit automation when it detects a certain person through Nest Hello, it can automatically unlock the door if anyone else is home and only during specific times. Great for the younger kids.

Well my Philips Hue V1 bridge just became unsupported and just reading up on things. Should I get the V2 bridge, or is it worth starting all over in another system for lighting?

Hue is too expensive IMO for a full home lighting setup. It's great for rooms that can take advantage of color lighting but that's the exception and not the norm.

Replace your switches with smart switches, choose whatever bulbs you want. That's the way to go still IMO.
