If ya want to settle down, have you considered staying with Asus for your upgrade?

Clearly I'm the one in the wrong here. The tribe has spoken. Carry on.

I did mine piece-meal. I bought my APs first, continued to use my AC-68u for routing purposes. I ran the controller off my windows box.
Then I replaced the controller with a Pi3b, since I had a spare one, and didn't want to purchase a cloud key.
Then I picked up a USG second hand off beyond.

If I were going to do it all again, I would just go for the dream machine (non-pro) to start, and buy AP's to expand as necessary. It includes a controller, router, and AP in one, and you can just add AP's where you need.

Dream machine is definitely a solid alternative to a router.

I debated the UDM, but the cost was so close to the UDMP that I spent the extra. I know not everyone wants a rack mount and you technically get an AP with the UDM.

Totally. They are just very different devices and a UDM pro really isn’t for everyone.

I would literally only get a UDMP for bragging purposes, but a UDM fits the bill so much better. Built in controller/router/AP, that I can just plug an external switch into, and run a few spare APs for better coverage. Even if I had a rack to mount it in, I'd likely still go with a UDM.

The real differentiator is if you plan on turning on IDS/IPS. The throughput difference is significant with it on.

As nice as it would be, I've gotten along fine without it at this point, by just ensuring my network is properly hardened in the first place.

I've got a pfsense box ready to go, a pihole to be configured and probably picking up a 24 port managed switch on Friday.

I can use the asus router a AP for a bit but is horribly cheap model (RT-AC55U ) and wifi was ok best of days.

I will probably have a LR AP for sale in a few days as I move everything around.

Has anyone had luck with a multi-WAN setup with the Ubiquity routers?

I did one a while ago on an Edge router and the auto fail over was, failing to fail over.

Reading online, it turned out to be a firmware/software issue - wonder if they have solved it by now?
