I just want it to work. The antenna on the ac66u just isn't strong enough. I tried the Samsung Connect 3-pack from lowes, but it wasn't flexible enough. I tried running those in AP mode with the AC66u as the router, and my mobile devices had constant issues, whereas all my other devices seemed fine.

I'd really only be saving $150 not buying the USG, but I suppose I can swap it out down the road. Does everyone still typically separate the 2.4ghz and 5ghz SSIDs? Or do you just leave them the same these days and let the device connect to whichever it wants?
I run a single SSID for both, 3 APs have 5Ghz enabled and only 1 AP has the 2.4 radio enabled (Ecobee and whatever else that only has 2.4 radio). All radios on low power and band steering enabled.

Helps needed from the Unifi users.

So I am wanting to deploy the Unifi system. 2 story house, 5 in-ceiling mounting points. All indoors. What AP should I choose? I am hoping for reliable and fast 5ghz coverage. Future proof if posiboru. There are several APs...nano, HD, SHD, AC...AC long range...

I have read the UBNT site over and over and there is really nothing pointing me at a specific one. NanoHD?

    Thanks in advance.

I went with 2 UAC-AP-LR and it covers my entire house. 4,500 sqft including basement. 900 sqft garage. Filled in all the dead spots.

Opted to buy 2x UAC-AP-LR, even though there weren't any good BF/CM sales. Should be delivered tomorrow.
Opted to hope that they come with PoE injectors, otherwise I'll be ordering a PoE switch.
Also realized that I have 2x RPi3 lying around, and I can use one as a controller if I really wanted to:

I have a couple passive 24V injectors sitting around if those work for yours.

UniFi is shitty with their skus so the only way to know witch version you get is to see what’s written on the box (which is how I ended up with the older passive ones).

I hope they're the newer ones, as the older ones don't work with the US-8-60W PoE switch I want to get one day.

I thought that UniFi went back on removing passive Poe support from their switches due to backlash?

Received my APs, which are 802.3af compliant, and came with injectors as well. Set them up last night, pretty happy with the coverage, except that I was having issues with the 2.4ghz on one my APs until I rebooted it.
    Ordered this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B016XIU1HE

Once the switch shows up, I'll be wall mounting the APs to see if I can get best coverage.

Has anyone installed any of the IW access points? I am looking to put something into my garage to hopefully get a better signal to my nest outdoor and doorbell cams. I think the ac-pros are struggling at times due to the materials it travels though from the basement and upstairs and it is also fighting against the 1000000 networks in the area since they require 2.4ghz. Or would I be better off trying to overpower the nearby networks?

I have 2 IW AP's. One on the main floor and another one in my office room upstairs, The coverage of the IW AP's are not that good. I ended up with IW for obvious reasons.
IMO you will be better off installing a AC PRO in the garage.

I am currently waiting for someone physically in Canada to stock the HD’s so I don’t have to pay duties. I plan to install 2-3.

Thanks, I will look at a pro or maybe move an existing pro and get a nano hd or something for inside the house.

You are looking for the nano right?
I would just get it from B&H and avoid the wait. Looks like 1 and 3 packs are able to ship to canada but not the 5. Cheaper than they would be here generally and you get freeshipping and pre-pay duty.

Part of the reason I went LRs over Pros. Door bells and cameras.
