Glad I got the cloud key from the get go as that sounds like a pita. Still happy with mine and once it warms up here will do the ethernet wiring and set up some of the UAC-AC-IWs.

I'm finally getting around to setting everything up and I've run in to an issue.
A quick note about the set up. I have Telus, so the service comes in to the modem and from there to a switch. from that switch one line goes to the Telus router to deal with the TV's and the other to the UniFi router.
In my rack I have 2 netgear switches. What I would like to do is connect LAN1 on the UniFi to one switch and LAN2 to the other. I created another Network in the UniFi controller and got LAN2 up and running. However, it appears that it's treating them as separate networks. If I daisy chain the switches together everything works great, things plugged in to the first switch can see things plugged in to the second. If I separate them then they stop playing nicely together.
Anyone know what I'm missing? I can't see how to combine the networks.
It looks like the Ubiquiti doesn't really have any content/parental controls.. Can anyone confirm?
Does anyone have a good solution they are using easier than something like Untangle?
You can apply filters with DPI if you have a USG. I think you can go deeper than that but it’s not terribly user friendly.
If you are just doing UniFi AP’s then they don’t do much in the way of filtering aside from time limits and disabling wifi for certain users outside of X hours or something.
No kids so I don’t do any filtering on my network so I’m not super familiar.

Parental controls? If your kids want to look at something bad enough that's on the internet then they'll find a way - better to maintain some sort of level of trust, understanding and communication with them instead of just controlling them.
Will fuck off, again.
I’ve never used it, but Disney circle is the de facto standard for parental controls. Works on top of whatever WiFi you’re using.

Um, you're going to want to avoid the accidental sucking a cock photo with a 2-6 year old for eg. Type the wrong shit into google (even the big G has semi-parental mode available) and all kinds ot crazy shit comes up.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Once they get older then (even this) discussion becomes more appropriate.
Open Mesh was acquired by Datto a while back, and starting Jan 1st will move to a monthly subscription model. All existing open mesh purchases prior to Dec 31st 2018 will still have the perpetual one time purchase license, which lets the APs be used and managed free of charge under CloudTrax. Cloudtrax is expected to EOL in 5 years, pretty much past the lifecycle of current 802.11ac.
Looks like Ubiquiti is the clear winner now, at least until they move to a sub model at some point haha.

I am prettty happy with mine. It is a bit of a money pit though. I’m hoping to see a new iteration of the in wall AP’s and I’ll pick a. Couple of those up to fix a few weak spots.

Asus AImesh is a pretty nice option too.

I can’t forgive Asus for their unpatched bug that prevented two of their devices from being on the same network.

@killramos which in wall AP you have? I am planning to put UniFi UAP-AC-IW-PRO but they are out of stock every where. Not sure whether it is getting replaced with UniFi In-Wall HD.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I don’t have any right now, but I’m interested in picking 1 or 2 up.
If they update them to in wall HD I’ll be on board.

Are the HD's better than the AC Pro's?
Yes. Realistically in a home environment? No.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Their website is such a hot mess... thanks Kenny.
I was literally looking for updates on their site this morning.
4 lan ports? AWESOME
I can remove my switch from my office now.
Gonna wait until I can find a source who will ship from Canada, no need to get fucked on duties...
As for the need for HD, probably no true need. More about not buying a 2-3 year old product and future proofing a little bit.

I forgot all about this thread
Got my house wired last month and am now all set up. I am thinking I am going to run a cable to the garage though and install a normal ac-iw as the nest cam has issues at times with the signal strength. Otherwise, I should do some wireless optimization. Otherwise, I am very happy with the setup (Except for sonos not being able to be all wired without doing network things which are above my head).
I ended up with a USG and USG-16-150W in the basement with a cloud key, and then a US-8 POE by each TV and my computer. One AP-Pro upstairs pointing down and one downstairs pointing up. Only trouble I had was bringing the network back as I am too dumb to figure out that you need to enable the POE pass through on the US-8. In retrospect, I got too gungho on the switches.

It looks like no one has the AC Pro in stock every one is back ordered. I think I am going to go with HD. I may have to order it from unifi directly.
Next wifi upgrade for me will be to a Cisco Meraki.
Ubiquiti. How cute.
