In a home environment this would worry me. I have 3 APs and in reality 1 can cover my whole house (but I would have areas of poor reception) so I run low power on 2ghz and medium of 5ghz. Previous to this “software update” I was able to have near perfect hand offs and distribution of clients on each AP (14-12-15) with an RSSI of -75db. Cranking up the power would probably help the association issues but I imagine it would impact my handoff as well as have me fighting my own APs for interference. However my understanding is rudimentary at best so if I’m incorrect please chime in, I would love to fix this.
I agree 100% - but the solution was to have a) nil WIFI or b) WIFI that works most of the time now ..... Im guessing someone will end up testing out the new dB numbers for power and RSSI.

Out of curiosity. What is stopping you guys from downgrading and restoring a backup from a week ago?

For me, I found a (temp?) workaround - otherwise yes.

And it would have been more than a week as my clients have had issues for over a month.

I have done that once and it ended in none of my APs adopting so I had to do a complete fresh start.

UniFi has been great for me since I installed it this issue here is the first time I have dealt with something that has not impressed me.

Just a quick update - was able to get my client and their ~35 WIFI devices more or less operational again.

From a UNIFI forum user recommendation - I cranked up the power from CUSTOM (18 db) to HIGH and disabled RSSI completely (although I think it defaults to -90 db).

Suddenly things started connecting and staying stable.

I've used the POWER and RSSI settings in custom (adjusted) mode for years - so obviously there is something strange there with the updates that broke it.

    Not ideal, but works now.
I figured i would try some of this, I put the power to high on all AP's and both 2ghz and 5ghz. So far I am 50 minutes without an anomaly. you might be on to something here. I didn't adjust my RSSI.

On a related note my house is deep red when I check hot points so this isn't the best solution but its a working on so far. Thank you.

EDIT: Anomalies all came back.... this was promising for the first hour. Sad face.

This basically goes without say when it comes to hardware like this in any aspect.

Unifi is unfortunately one of the biggest prosumer type gear available and you sometimes have to put up with their shit just like with Microsoft and its stupid patches at times.

@benyl I didn't upgrade but I'm still good. All my errors are from blocking neighbor who's remembered my wifi back when she was over here, and with my backyard AP she's connecting to it more than usual haha.

That’s awesome, even funnier would be to let her connect, but on some massively restricted vlan.

There is some massive comedy being missed out on one way or another.

Maybe try and setup a payment portal for her Rage?

Honestly, I'd open it up for her if it wasn't for trying to enforce better security best practices. I think the family was going through a rough patch during the lockdown, it seemed like they didn't have power for all of summer.

My bad. I blame unifi for it. They don't actually have a segregated guest network like open mesh did. Think you need the USG to build a proper guest network. Guest SSID's still connect on the same subnet, where some things are blocked and some things not. It's stupid. Had no choice but to block guests.

You really just need to get a USG, or a UDM Pro like the rest of us initiated.

Pretty sure you can put the guest stuff on its own vlan? Been awhile since I looked.
