Thx for that, weren’t even on my radar.

I like that it still accepts keys.

How’s the interior size? That’s what bugs me about most.

I need to get my doors trued up better before I install smart locks though, they are poorly aligned at the best of times.
It's literally their real lock but with bluetooth, app, and homekit added. As a lock it just works, like you said, real key for old people, keypad for guests, and app/automation for us. The bluetooth and homekit implementation as well as firmware updates is flawless so far.

That was the best part of installing my nest locks. Garage door need to deepen whole in door jam and chisel a bit in the door for the plate. Front door was the same.....but then the deadbolt was hitting like the bottom 3rd of the jam so I had to grind a bit away for it to actually actuate.

Mine are nowhere near that bad. But having doors you need to lean on to seat right isn’t going to work with smart locks is my point.

FYI to all those with nest cams. The new nest aware plus is available in Canada as of today.

16/mo unlimited cameras 10 day 24/7 recording and 60 says event Video recording.

Alternatively 8/mo for 30 days event video recording.

Hello also gets package detection in Canada now ( for both being dropped off and stolen )

I tried delivering a package to test today. Didn’t detect shit. Maybe I need a UPS uniform.

It is a bit of a useless feature as it only works if the package is left in view of the camera.

It detected 1 of 2 deliveries for me today. First package left right up against door out of view of the camera and was not detected despite it being a larger amazon box. Second package was a small flat package but it was left in view of the camera and that was detected.

The latest and greatest thing is dual cam doorbells. One points normally and a second camera points downward for packages.

I’ve been told I should get a wyze cam to point downwards towards packages.

    Unifi’s

Ring should have one soon if not already, maybe take a couple years for best to bother making a new product.

New nest aware sign-up is out. I believe you need to convert to a google account to use, other accounts should be fine for now though they dicked me and removed my promo on my one cam. $8/mth or $80/yr gives you 30 days of event/motion detection only (live is unchanged) and $16/mth or $160/yr gives you 60 day event/motion detection and 10 days of 24/7 footage. Kind of a steep back if you only have one or two cameras but this price is all in (Per home), not per camera. If you do upgrade though I think there is still a chance of losing history so back up any funny clips before doing so.

These new plans suck balls for someone like me who just has a Nest Hello. I like the 5 days of 24/7 recording for $5/month plan that I’m on. I think I prepaid for a year so not sure what will happen when the year is up... will they grandfather you on the old plan or force you to change to the newer ones?

I just went on a rant about this with kenny yesterday lol.

First, the good. Migration went smooth. All history there. First month of new Nest Aware is free. Family also has to convert to a google signin.

    The bad.

    1. No Google G-Suite account support. That's right, you have to use a completely separate individual gmail account that's orphaned from your core account.
    2. 2FA setup for gmail is standard, supports authenticator app, supports app prompt. But Nest login will *always* use SMS as 2FA. The weakest method of all 2FA.
    3. Logins aren't persistent, so I have a flood of 2FA codes in my chat. Fucking green bubbles.
    4. Once you're migrated you can immediately convert to your new nest aware subscription. Once you're back in, you will never be able to review your new subscription. Clicking nest aware brings you to a migration again. Which does nothing lol.
    5. Pro tip - to find your new subscription go to store.google.com click your profile, and go to subscriptions. It's completely disconnected from Nest.
    6. Login is 10x slower. After logging in, there's a huge wait on your browser before the cameras pop up.
    7. Apple TV and Android Nest app doesn’t support google account. lol

Fucking google UI/UX teams needs a bitchslap. No they need to be punched in the fucking face.

You can stay on the old plans.

btw anyone wanting to get rid of a nest indoor cam? I need one more, maybe 2 and checking the used market first. Or does anyone need 1 or 2 when the 3 packs go on sale again we can split it?

    snip
Those are all good points. I believe this is only one of the issues with g-suite and google integration with services?
I will probably stick with the old plan for now as I only really need it for the (2) outdoor cams and had been using the 5-day. For some reason I had thought the $16 plan included 30 day 24/7 storage.

It looks like maybe they didn't screw up my indoor cam, just on my phone it thinks it has only event subscription but on the desktop it is 5 day proper 24/7.

I think I am done investing in the nest ecosystem as a general statement.

They just don’t gaf about their products or customers. I almost ordered a thermostat a few weeks ago and realized I didn’t even want one anymore.

I think I’m going to slowly transition all my cameras to Unifi over the next couple years. I like my nest guard but it isn’t even supported in this country lol.

Hilariously they are getting a great deal with me on the new plan, while I have severaL cameras (5) most of them are disabled when I’m home which is always these days haha.

I hate my nest thermostats. Wish I went with ecobee. I have a ring doorbell cam, and wyze indoor cams.

    How many do you want?

I have 1-2 I could let go of right away. The rest will take more time.

No idea what a fair price is for these. They are the indoor non iq
