    Default 2017 Toyota 86

Might as well refresh it when changing the name and power up to 205 hp (manual only)! Revised springs, new wheels etc.

I think this is the first time a newer version of a car I own and like has come out while I still own it. I don't like this feeling.

    205 hp. Hahahahaha

That said I'm curious how much of a gear change there is. If the redline is raised to say 7800 because of the intake, the final could be dropped to a 4.56 or better. Should be fun either way.

What a radical departure from the previous gen styling.

If this car had 300 horse it would be so worth looking at for fun times.

    Fan boys help me out

Why is this car so slow?

I know one person who owns this car, she's 60 and bought it because "it just looked so cute." Is that the demographic this car is appealing too? I love the way it looks but I want my sports car to go fast without having to put 10k under the hood. I can't be the only one thinking this.

It is slow to prevent overlap with Subaru's WRX and STI. Of course it is also slow to keep the costs low.

I am feeling the new lights but not the new styling.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

    I like the back end.
Front end, not really. The FR-S was pretty well defined, while this one looked like Arash tried to do something with it.

    200hp was fast when I was 16

Good entry level car for the kids into the car scene IMO.

Hard to think of another car that so badly needs a power bump or even a modest chippable turbo engine (the tuner crowd would go crazy), but as mentioned it's probably to appeal more to the entry level folks with who just got their licences and want something that's new, cheap and kind of fun.

Funny, I know 2 people with this car and one is a senior citizen as well haha. They do look great though.

It's like the Miata, slow AF but fun to go around corners with.

Im guessing they are trying to bring toyota back to the glory days of the toyota AE86, although this reminds me of a Toyota Supra.

I think just like the Miata, at the core of the design it's reflecting/reviving what it's inspirational ancestor exemplified, the AE86 was a fairly affordable, decently handling compact FR vehicle. Just like the Miata or those English roadsters of the 60s, the aim was to give the masses an affordable sports car that was fun to drive with just enough power to get into trouble with.

I'm sure as fun as this car would be with a higher output engine, it wasn't the focus of the Subaru/Toyota engineers.

As someone who owns a 550 hp awd GT car and a supercharged BRZ (still slow, lol), there is definitely something to be said having been able to drive both cars consecutively.

The BRZ simply offers a driving experience you can't find in many cars in its very affordable price range (or many above it), and that's really all it comes down to. It isn't about whether its 200 hp or more, or less. It's about the way the car drives and comes together as a package; light, RWD, great chassis, well-balanced out of the factory and hopefully as time reveals, a reliable and dependable powerplant both stock and modified. Basically, the dream platform for enthusiasts and tuning companies alike.

The new miata has just 155hp and is faster than this one. I don't know if it's the weight or the gearing (or both) but my old rsx with 200hp felt faster no doubt. I get that this car isn't about power, but a slight bump would go a long way.
