    Default iPad sales ever?

We're looking at picking up an iPad Air for the house but wondering if these ever go on sale seasonally or maybe when new stuff is announced etc.

Also, would anyone buy a used iPad? I've heard some horror stories of iPhones getting locked/bricked or something a few days because they're actually stolen devices...

I think the refurbished ones come with some warranty too? And yes from what I've heard, apple refurbished products are just as good.

Also, keep an eye out on RFD, they post sales on tablets and stuff.

Apple products don't really go on sale, at least not from Apple directly. If you're looking to save a buck, your options are a) refurbished or b) your education discount if you want new.

If you're not in any rush, Apple also typically has some sort of back-to-school promo towards the end of summer to go along with your education discount. Last year I got a $100 gift card to use at the Apple store, which I sold on Kijiji for $80.

Full 1 yr warranty like it is new. Only the packaging is different. Bought my MBP that way and was super impressed. Currently look at an 9.7" ipad pro, but the refurbished air 2's are a good deal.

Currently 64gb in space gray or silver for $509 refurbished or $599 at costco $609 elsewhere.

Hmm they have refurbished first versions available through the Apple store, which looks to be the cheapest avenue...

Is 16gb enough for just basic apps and OS updates?

    ^ No imo.

32 is a much more comfortable amount of space.

Every 16 GB iOS device i have ever owned had continually been bumping off the space limit. 32 or 64 GB devices I have owned were all perfect with no issues.

    but ymmv

I've had OS updates come in asking for 8gb free... when the device only shipped with 11 free in the first place.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you plug the device into iTunes I don't think you need to have a ridiculous amount of free space to do an update. It's annoying, but otherwise you need a crap load of free space on the device to do the update OTA. I always had to do that with my iPhone because it was only 16GB.

1.5 year old refurbs are still $500 that's nuts. Sadly the tablet market blows right now and you don't have a lot of choices.

^ Yup, there is some space requirement but even then backup, restore and update, and system restore from backup is an option.

Also the insane iOS update file sizes aren't a thing anymore as they use delta update files now. Even full OS versions aren't that big any more. Have for a while actually. I did an OTA update of my 6s with less than 400MB free last week with no hiccup.

Sounds like the newer Air 2 with 64Gb is a better option if I want it to last. Maybe the 5G WIFI will be better too (I'll have to google).

What are you using your ipad for?

Instead of buying the latest and greatest, op for an older generation. I just picked up an iPad Mini 2 for like $250 new from Bestbuy. I was only using it to fly my drone, and if the Mini 2 can do it, why spend $800 on the latest version?

Keep your eyes peeled on kijiji for ones that are still sealed BNIB. That's where I tried to sell mine that I won as a door prize. You can get them for up to $100 less that way.

The functions for the most part are really basic but I compared the mini and the regular size and unfortunately, really prefer the size of the larger one.

Kijiji does have a couple that look appealing, I'm just worried about stolen devices and what may or may not happen if I buy one.
