In San Diego every night we would just go down to the beach and sit on the sand to watch this:
Also, this was just rather random. I wasn't as close as I'd like, but my wife and her friend pointed out what was going on.
So I snapped what I could. I later approached them and gave them the photos to download. Nothing technical about them, I just liked the expressions I got.

Went looking for the Wood Ducks since some people have spotted them...didn't see any, but played around practicing birds in flight...and saw a Hairy Woodpecker which was neat.

Steve, where were Wood Ducks reported??! I'll be down in Calgary for the next month and bit, eager to get some birding in now that I have the 150-600 dialed in!

How about a Mandarin Duck?
As more of them show up they're always around the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. There's also usually a belted kingfisher around during the summer (hasn't been spotted yet this year), great blue herons, eagles and osprey along the river, and all sorts of other little critters.Originally posted by msommers
