Congrats, looks like you took the same route I'm on (just starting EET after masters). Hopefully the economy improves by the time I graduate but like you mentioned landing a good summer job should help a lot.Originally posted by rx7_turbo2
There was a number of factors.
I thought about trying to get on as an SCO with The City, but it's tough getting you're foot in the door. A Master ticket and a Tech diploma gives you a pretty good shot.
I was self-employed and life threw a monkey wrench at me in terms of a health related issue. My wife and I thought the capital cost it would take to get me off the tools and hire 3-4 employees might be better spent sending me back to school.
Finally, I kinda wanted a change.

Someone finally bought it!
Haven't heard much on mass layoffs lately, all quiet on the western front?
New quarter, anyone starting another thread?
sig deleted by moderator, because they are useless
I've always found summer tends to be slow. I don't expect we'll hear much till September.
CP has been doing a bunch of layoffs / firings lately, so it's Ogden HQ is getting rather empty. And they just laid off 500 track workers, which I didn't think they even had that many left to begin with...
It seems there has been layoffs ongoing, but not big enough to make the news.
Lost one last week

I posted this in the other forum, but a company with "alta" in the name had at least 20 layoffs last week.
2nd word Gas? yes they did
Peter Tertzikian has an article this week about the possible timing for re-hires at most companies.
Summary, not in 2016.

People in BC don't like people from Alberta. The amount of hate is crazy. You'll definitely have an uphill struggle getting in I reckon. Good luck though!Originally posted by Sugarphreak
Apparently people in Victoria don't like people from Alberta... stupid hippies, I hope they choke on their home made granola bars
Vancouver is sure active right now though![]()

When I was looking, Victoria seemed pretty fucking expensive to live compared to the salaries offered.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
Vancouver is pretty hit or miss, they need people to fill jobs, and thanks to the mainlander buying spree, most locals can't afford to actually live off what they pay anymore. Albertans can still afford to actually buy into something decent and show up for a job and not be high as a kite.
Most Islanders just hate people who have money, but then again the job market is crap so who really cares. While the interior might as well just be Northern Alberta anyway.
The Okanagan and Victoria on the other hand are a whole new level of hate specifically against job seekers from Alberta.
I wonder if they have more hate for that band of homeless people living on the lawn of the legislature.
Folks from Alberta have been bringing entitled and arrogant attitudes out to the island for decades. The roots of the hatred are well founded, IMO.
