This is in addition to selling their (small) conventional asset.
I wouldn't be surprised as Vancouver is proposing a 2% vacant home tax by 2017 on top of the 15% foreign buyer tax.Originally posted by nzwasp
I drove past your place on the way to best buy just before and there were probably 6 chinese people standing outside looking at it maybe you will get overseas buyers after all.

2% doesnt seem to be high enough to be honest. Whats 20k to someone holding on to a 1 million dollar home.

I just claim I'm snowbird and keep it empty. It's not like they have the man power to camp outside of my house all 365 days of the year.
I bet it's something. Ask Sugarphreak, I don't personally know him, but I'd be shocked if he would be indifferent to that much money (edit: I'm not trying to pick on him in any way, so I hope it doesn't come across like that. He just came to mind because he is, in fact, holding on to a $1MM house). I know people who have homes worth significantly more than that, and 20k still matters to them.Originally posted by nzwasp

That's 2% annually though and not one time like the 15%. They are relying on neighborhood narqs to report the owners, so I think they will be successful in enforcement due to the perceived public backlash.
with the end of Q3 coming up, any rumours of layoffs this week or next?

Again, this tax is against flippers who holds it for indefinite amount of time, don't put it on rental market (hassle on tenant rules) and flip them. This will increase cost for them and discourage the practice.Originally posted by cjblair

What field are you in? From what I understand most comparable HK jobs pay a lot less than in Canada because there's such a huge talent pool it really drives down wages.
If you compare my salary now to calgary 3 years ago I am making double BEFORE tax. You may think my salary has gone up due my additional experience, however, my coworkers back in Calgary had annual 3-4% increments only.
And you are right on the 'talent' pool if you are a fresh local fresh grad. If you are an experienced expat the game is different.

300? At least the world will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed.Originally posted by Euro838

I'm running out of work to do. This has already happened twice this year, and they must like me because they keep finding things for me... albeit at the last minute.
If I don't get something in the next couple weeks though, I expect I'll be joining the ranks of the unemployed... would have been nicer at the beginning of summer though, so I could golf.
