    BUMP!

Anyone have any good experience with a dedicated LED fixture or is everyone still using standard florescent fixture with LED bulbs?

This seems to be the cheapest LED fixture available at Home Depot or Lowes...

    Ever thought of these?

Style depends on your ceiling height. Fixtures with a cover over the LED's helps to diffuse the light for lower ceilings , where as the fixtures with the raw leds in strips tend to be better for higher ceilings. I find the raw lights on lower ceilings tend to have a kind of spotlight effect.

These are the best ones I've found. Same 4000 lumens and 4000k colour as the ones you posted, but cheaper.

So those can be hardwired in and on a switch (not the pull strings)?

Never switched to LED since I can get 2x lumens for 1/2 the price with florescent. Just get some 4000k tubes for white light.

Only issue I found with fluorescent is temperature. If your garage isn’t heated sometimes they’re a pain. LED is essentially not affected by temperature.

I went the splitter route a couple years ago with 2 100W equivalents in each socket. Works ok but shadows are the issue. Working on your car with the hood up and you’ll need a secondary light source.

Bought 4 3200W led bars to replace the bulbs, hoping the 4 bars will be slightly brighter and offer better coverage

I'm going to grab some of these I think. Do you know if they have any access holes on the top so they can cover up an octagon box?

Home Depot has double row 4 ft strips for around $50 and double row 8 ft fixtures for around $100. I replaced my 60 watt double HO T12s with the 8 ft fixtures and the light output is at least 50% greater than the old 120w fixtures (and instant, no humming). The price is finally right for retrofitting. Also, my high-output bulbs were $9 twelve years ago.

I converted my electrical light boxes by installing receptacles and covered the octagon box with a round cover like this:
    https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.4...000106235.html

Also bought the Costco shop light fixtures they have instore when there were engergy rebates. The lights do have pull strings but I just leave it in on position control it via wall switch. Two per car stall in the garage brightens the entire garage up very nicely.

I did exactly this. Took about 30 mins to rewire, needed to run more ground to make sure everything was bonded correctly, pretty simple just followed a picture

I’m really happy, 4 led bars puts out significantly more light than the 4 100w equivalent LED bulbs with splitters I had before and way less shadow zones. Going to add two more bars on the front where I work the most.

This what I ended up with after swapping in the Costco Luminous 18w led tubes. MUCH improved over fluorescent

An update for the thread, just ordered the lights below from Amazon. $40 each, LED, linkable and plug into a socket. Installing this weekend, but they look quite bright in testing them out.

If you plan on doing any work in the garage once it's complete, run wiring for at least 2 more fixtures.
Agreed. Only two fixtures will give you a hot spots in those areas with a considerable drop off in light for the other areas. This is the time to get it done. Better to have overkill than not enough.

How big is your garage and how many did you buy?
Let me know how it turns out. Might pull the trigger on this too.
Was thinking of getting 4 of them for a garage with 14' ceilings that's 21X24.

I believe my garage is 24x22 or something like that, I only went with two in the work bench/over the hood type area, but I can see adding two more. (Can only link 4 together) I just moved into a new house and we have a long wish list, so adding more garage lighting might not go over well with the boss. ha ha

Too bad you didnt post that earlier, I would have ordered via your link. Very impressed with the lights for $39.99. One of my boxes came damaged, but the light was perfectly fine.

One thing on the mounting, I didnt have a ton of faith in the slip-on screw mount, so I also drilled a hole in the middle of the light and screwed that directly into the ceiling.

So those ones are powered by screwing into a light bulb socket?
