    Default Opinions on garage lighting.

So my house is at a stage where electrical is being run and I'm trying to decide what lighting to have in the garage. I was going to go with 2 fluorescent fixtures with 4 bulbs in each.

It's a 27x25 garage so I do need some light, but is this sufficient enough or are there any other options that won't break the bank?

I'd recommend going with LED it's cheaper to run and way better light output. I went overboard in my garage I did 8 LED fixtures. I hate not having enough light in a garage while working. They also don't dim or flicker in the cold weather.

I bought a bunch of LED fixtures from costco and mounted them in my garage. They work great and are much better then a fluorescent tube light.

I am sure most people are going to recommend a LED fixture. Many advantages: more light output, no warm up time, cheap to run and long life.

    Go more than that... In my 24x24 i have 24 8' fluorescent lights (12 - 2 bulb)

Bright is better. I have mine on 2 switches (outside rows and center strips) but they are all always on as daylight is the way it should be

I haven't seen those ones at Costco for awhile. Which location did you get them at?

I have 4 T8 florescent fixtures (2 bulbs per) in my 24x24. They came with original florescent T8 bulbs and I found them too dim. However I upgraded the bulbs to the Phillips LED 17W T8 Instafit LED's and they have made a world of difference.

I found by going with the T8 fixtures + LED bulbs it's slightly cheaper than going with a LED fixture (one that runs on the LED strips).

I've got 9 fixtures in my 24x24. Each row has it's own light switch. T5 35W High output lights. It's bright going into there from outside at night, but it's very well lit.

First rule, you'll want more light than you think.

I also have 8 2tube T5HO fixtures. Flipping the switch is like turning on the sun. At night the light coming through the upper garage door windows is enough to light up the street better than the actual streetlight 10' away.

This sounds about what I think I going to do. I searched around and found what I think I want and LED is the way to go. I believe I'm going to do 4 fixtures with 2 bulbs each. Well see how that goes.

My only issue with the T8's is they seem to take awhile to warm up when the garage is stone cold in the winter. The T5HO seem to be better. How are the T8 LED retrofit? I've never used them?

For the size of my garage this is overkill, but I rarely need a trouble light.

If you plan on doing any work in the garage once it's complete, run wiring for at least 2 more fixtures.

This. If you work in your garage then you want tons of light. DIY auto body guys will mount lights on the walls too.

The T8 LED's are great. As long as you have an electronic ballast they act like any other LED bulb, instantly lights up.

Granted, I have a heated garage so I cant tell you what performance is like if the garage is at -10.

    BUMP!

Anyone have any good experience with a dedicated LED fixture or is everyone still using standard florescent fixture with LED bulbs?

This seems to be the cheapest LED fixture available at Home Depot or Lowes...

I used a couple of socket splitters (https://www.amazon.ca/DiCUNO-Splitte...QN81W37MWRWD1Y) and 100 watt equivalent LEDs and its like outside in my garage with the door closed

I guess I never did update this. I ended up deleting the regular bulbs and opted for 4 50" LED lights that plug in to the ceiling.

They have been great and they were super cheap but I can't remember how much.

These are the best ones I've found. Same 4000 lumens and 4000k colour as the ones you posted, but cheaper.

Yes! Those are the ones. You can either wire them in or plug them into the light socket or AC.
