My garage door system is ridiculously loud and my young daughter's room is right above so I am unable to open the garage when she's sleeping. Any suggestions on best way to dampen the sound? It's bottom of the barrel builder grade system (only 5 years old)

Lube up all the o/h door rollers, brackets and spring.

Action Door installed our door via the builder and I had them out once (under the 1 year builder warranty) to fix a roller that was binding and he lubed everything up and it was dead silent after. It then just gets more noisy over time, need to take a look at it again.

Don't use WD-40. If Action did yours maybe give them a ring and ask them what to spray all that shit with. Lithium grease or while lithium grease is what I think he used. Worked like a charm.

Belt-drive system is a small bit quieter. Mounting the opener itself on some rubber bushings or something that will isolate the vibration from the building framing will help.

Jackshaft opener probably the right move.

Or do this if you can.

Like I noted above if its lubed up a jackshaft opener is super quiet. You'd hear nothing inside.

Yeah this is a good start and cheap to do. You can also pull the cord to disconnect your opener then manually move the door up and down by hand to see how loud it is by itself. The budget builder chain drives are noisey as fuck so it could just be that to swap out.

This is nice because it does a great job of keeping the spray focused.

this is the exact stuff that Action recommends to use.

Had the same issue so I installed the side mount. Worth every penny (CT sale $550), it's almost too quiet.

Finally pulled the trigger on this. I chose 2 of the 30" width taller cabinets rather than as pictured. Cheapest it's been in a year and got a metric butt-load of CT$ credited. "Similar" NewAge setup was more than double.

Awesome. How much did it run you altogether? Thinking about doing something similar.

Agreed it really is worth it. I never thought a garage door could be so quiet.

Christ, it was only something like $1,800 I think I got like $300+ in $CT rebates. I've been meaning to analyze my receipt and post in the Credit Card thread but haven't got to it yet.

That's pretty reasonable. I gotta take a look at that.

Use your triangle select membership and it's more than paid for with that one purchase.

Amen brother! I'll get another 8% (150 $CT) back because this will be my biggest CT receipt from the year and I already got $319 $CT with this purchase.
It's bananas. I'll post in the credit card thread. $1960 with tax before accounting for $CT

Gents, I need to make a decision on what to do to heat my garage in the next hour.

    Two options:

    In-floor radiant heating

    Or

Ductless split heat pump that can heat/cool

Cost is about 2x for the in-floor heating, cleaner look. Better heat but no cooling. The in-floor heat would also cover the entire lower level of the house which I’ve shown below. But everything in the house aside from the garage will also be heated/cooled by the main furnace and air conditioner. Thanks a lot everyone

    In BC?

While I would ordinarily say in floor is the only choice, frankly your heating needs are probably perfectly well suited for a ductless heat pump.

Could always rough in the radiant and decide if you need it down the road? Or at least get a rough in quoted.

I might have to go in this direction - I lubed everything like a mf yesterday and the sound differential is marginal.

    Any suggestion on a unit/installer?

Yeah, in BC. Sort of what I was thinking but the ductless unit is pretty ugly even when blocked out.

In floor heating gives you super quick temp recovery when you open the big door in the winter. Hard to say if that’s worth anything to you or not.
