Is that PCB under the seat actually bare? Cant see where a cover would even attach.
Seriously considered a 944 a couple years back but was scared of things like this. I commend your bravery.

That's pretty weird indeed. Stuck blend door or caked-up evaporator core, maybe.Originally posted by flipstah
The clutch is engaging, which is weird.
The moneypit continues. Had to buy new lock cylinders and a spare key coming from Stuttgart. Sigh.
Does your 928 have the fancy security system where it's activated/deactivated by a key in the 1/4 panel? I had that system fail on me on my 944, left the car immobilized and fuck was it ever expensive to replace lol.Originally posted by flipstah

Yes haha. The immobilizer isn't busted, but the cylinders are. Found the wiring diagram on Rennlist.Originally posted by rage2

Let's say it's the same feeling lol.
If it's the lock that's broken, you're lucky and that's a cheap fix. The expensive shit is when the underlying immobilizer electronics/wiring flakes out. I was so happy when I switched to a standalone ECU to bypass all that shit.

Side-note:
If the 928/944 freaks people out, imagine cars built today 30 years from now.
So we took off the beaten, worn down dashmat and uncovered a dashboard that has definitely seen better days.
We're opting for a dark blue suede dashmat for now until we have enough time and more funding for the dashboard removal. The seats are our priority.

Meanwhile, parts are slowly trickling in at the Porsche Calgary service department and still waiting for the lock cylinders and the spare key.
I don't know the car at all but I'd be tempted to buy new wire harnesses and also custom it to bypass any old immobilizer ECUs.
Basically, what Rage said. If wiring is a known issue, new body and engine harness, repin to what you need for a standalone ecu. Not cheap but might save time in long run for diagnosing problems.
Rennlist was able to give schematics on how to bypass the old ECU. That's how we're getting the car to work right now with faulty locks.Originally posted by mr2mike

The immobilizer still works well, but the locks don't. Bypassing the ECU was one way how we isolated the problem.
I'm surprised you can still afford internet to post in here. I mean, you've had the car for a week and a half already!

Have you thought of "flocking" your dash board?
http://www.projecttechnik.com/forum/...=flock#p104477
I'm wondering how it would look to cover the dashboard in leather/pleather. Fill the cracks, scuff and shoot it with spray adhesive, and lay some thin pliable synthetic leather type material.
UPDATE
The 928 got a new Interstate battery and all was running to a tee.
Maybe rage2 was onto something.
Yesterday was DRIVEN so CPTNSLW was in the Oval. Took the 928 for a stroll all Saturday.
Everything was fine; car ran well, nice Calgary summer day, had a refreshing cruise with the windows down. Backstreet Boys or N'Sync; only two bands that was playing in the car because that's the only CD's I had.
Side-note: Quench my thrist with some Pellegrino and since there was no cup holders in the car, chugging carbonated water before a drive hurt.
Drove it around Calgary and parked it underground to enjoy the show. I saw rage2 as well around campus and honked at him as I passed him in the opposite direction, which might have been an omen.
It was 6:30PM and I was going to drive the car back home and get a ride to pick the Golf up for roll-out, then it wouldn't start.
Wasn't the battery; it was new and fully charged.
Wasn't the immobilizer; we bypassed it.
Fan also stopped working, but everything else was.
Could be the starter, but had to call for a tow truck and wait. Then get my Golf out of the Oval and deal with this.

its for the intensive washer system - it removes oil film and bugs better than washer fluid. it was $36 when the car was new.Originally posted by flipstah
WTF IS A SILICONE REMOVER? It's a $20 bottle for the wipers. :S

Onto fun diagnostics. Three issues came up when looked around.

- Key was in ignition; wouldn't crank
- Took off key
- Checked every fuse and no blown to report
- Checked relays for loose connectivity; same with harness
- Cleaned fuses; loud, steady tick-tock was heard in engine bay. Located to area (A)
- Unplugged and replugged (A) to which ticking stopped; tried to start car:

Another tick-tock was heard. It's on (B):

- Unplugged and replugged (B) to which ticking stopped; still won't start
- Noticed that (C) is collecting oil. If you look at it straight down, there's a small pool of oil:

Note the reflection highlighted; that's oil.
I'm Googling what these part #'s are, but guess is immobilizer/alarm related.
