Turns out I've been here for a long time too. #1033

I took a long time away from being a daily reader of Beyond when 780tunas was at it's peak before the mass bannings and downfall of the site from a nice auto content site to what it is today. Now I'm back to reading Beyond daily.

Haha, you could be right, but I was at least trying to be a dick, so that's enough for me to rethink my shitty attitude.

Sucks to hear about your tough few years brother. Although, on the plus side, you may be on the upswing now?

I know it's partly the economy recently, but I know so many people who have been struggling with mental health issues in the last few years. Some extremely serious, others less so. So far mine have been minor I guess, so I'm pretty thankful for that. I know know "stable family man" types who have basically given up on life, and for one of them in particular, I'm actually just waiting for the obituary to show up. It's scary.

There are a lot of resources available for anyone going through difficulties, and if you ever have trouble finding them, let me help you.
First calls to your company "employee and family assistance program" and the distress centre are worthwhile.

    Stay healthy my friends.

Thanks buddy and to be honest my issues were more just anger and tilted perspective by spending way too much time online. Luckily I had a happy life after but it was starting to turn into a bit of an obsession.

Yeah, the online anger, I know it well. Luckily(?) these days, nothing online pisses me off as much as parts of my real life.

I didn't like that and I didn't like being reminded of it.

Seems I became a dick around the end of 2011.

I still lurk, but I've really made an effort to not post, even going so far as to write stuff and delete.

Don't want anyone to think I did it for any reason than the fact that I did nothing good for humanity online for the last 4 years. 99.9% of the posts probably could have stayed (you know things like LOL) but reading posts was just harder than doing a mass edit.

Also I know people have quoted what I said and there is nothing I can do about that or those. Not too worried about it really, just wanted to make sure my stuff was dealt with.... and no, this is not part of some 12 step program.

The nice thing about this is I got my OG account unlocked! Got the attention of the Mods and they got a way to fix the one I lost the password for! Nice to be OG again? LOL.

See above, I realize now it probably seems weird.

hahaha, can't get your account locked if you don't post anymore.

Much like Cos' reasons, I am backing way off. Deactivated Facebook. Deactivated my account on another popular forum. I truly believe online social media is overall detrimental to human interaction. Real life is hard enough to not have to have your stress level bumped up a few notches by online interaction.

Right before Christmas I got stiffed by two contractors for a total of over $5,000. Between that and family health issues, I'm trying to "step away" just to keep my sanity.

From stuff I read there is a pretty strong correlation forming between increased social media use and depression. I definitely consider beyond to be social media, albeit to a lesser degree than a lot of services.

Some of the happiest people I know have no idea what facebook is, makes you wonder...

At the end of the day not sure what people expect when they sell their soul for cheap conveniences and instant gratification online.

Beyond is the only thing that got me through an incredibly boring office job, literally my only human interactions some weeks at work. So thanks guys!

I don't use any of the typical social media sites. With that said, don't blame the social media sites, but rather how the people use it.

My only online interaction is with Beyond members, as I enjoy discussing specific topics with most of the members. Plus, almost all of you live close enough that I could just come by and shoot ya

Beyond is probably the one place where you can get various viewpoints in one place. I notice with FB I generally unfollow the people that don't agree with me which probably isn't a good thing. Beyond is where I come to get straightened out when I'm being dumb. Which is most of the time.
