You've been up in arms over Nenshi about stuff that pales in comparison.

This fire has caused me to work so much overtime. Last night, I was trying to pour concrete for my new front step. Got a call to get back in to work and get more retardant drops on our infrastructure. thankfully I was almost done, but this fire has caused so much work for me and my team. OT hours are through the roof.

This is a stupid comment, but I'm surprised that vehicles are able to operate effectively so close to that kind of fire. The temperatures would be extremely high, and I would have thought that oxygen starvation would have been a factor. Also, I guess automotive filtration systems are good enough where your car doesn't turn into a big smoke box?

Lastly, I'm totally impressed by the order and relative calm... I can't believe people in this video were not driving on sidewalks and ditches.

Any other city and this probably would have been a total shit show. I'd say a huge factor in the orderliness and lack of injuries is the fact that a huge part of the city most likely has some basic form of emergency training and a bunch will have more advanced training.

ideally HVAC turned off/recirculating while in thick smoke?

No doubt a car wouldn't be putting down the same power inhaling smoke, but there's got to be a good amount of oxygen in the air still.

I suspect many vehicles were close to exceeding max coolant temps.

Found this on facebook. It makes a similar observation that I'd say is pretty spot on.

The view at the end of this one is absolutely crazy.

It is also worth noting that this was shot on Tuesday afternoon and the fire is exponentially bigger now.

Good map of what is currently burning based on NASA temp data.

Ironically generated by the Toronto Star, their's is interactive but i linked a picture for easier use on the forum.

Actually I think he is calling everyone who has grown up and lives in a modern urban center a moron, and quite frankly I by and large agree with him. People in cities have the most fucked up sense of priorities, admittedly me included to an extent. Driving a sporty BMW doesn't feel like a particularly good decision when you are faced with shoving as much stuff as you can into a vehicle and getting as far away from your home as possible knowing there is a good chance you never see any of it again. Its a different way of going about your life that's for sure.

I dealt with my first ft Mac insurance claim. Gaskets likely fried in this vehicle and engine is probably done. Car overheated in escaping ft Mac. Cust kept driving it, keeps overheating. I'm surprised its still running personally.

So I'd say there will be more cars that reciever damage from driving next to that fire

This would be one of those situations where the Tesla bio-defense HEPA filters might have been some use

Let alone no need for air intake haha

    Interesting numbers.

Are there any updates on situation of the current fire? Today I'm only reading about the airport being a risk. It sounds like the city is more or less under control now. Is the fire still close and there's a worry about the possibility of the situation turning for the worse again?

Insane footage. Can't imagine what people are going through, especially in the last few videos where the fire is right next to the street.

    Most importantly, no lives lost.
