Also, the NDP never even inquired to the operators of the MARS bomber (currently in BC) to come out... that is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

The MARS bomber can actually flatten huge areas of Timber when it dumps and create instant fire breaks.... plus it reloads on lakes in minutes VS landing at an airport and filling up with a hose. It would have made a real difference IMO.
There is more to this story about the MARS, a quick Google search will reveal this.

The MARS bombers aren't in very good condition last I heard. I don't think they've been used in years anywhere.

They were used last June in BC for a short 30 day contract.

Albian (Jackpine Mine) is back up operating as of 9am this morning. Not max rates yet, but we're flying people back up. Muskeg River Mine is scheduled to start back up tomorrow, but might be sooner. Depends on how flying people back up goes.

Im stoked I get to go home tonight though. Been a long, difficult week.

Where could the Mars land to fill up? My understanding why BC doesn't use them all they much is the limited lakes that it can use reduces it's efficiency. Same for Russian aircraft. Where would it be based out of and would it be effective?

How congested is the airspace already? Love how social media is the experts in all fields.

also as quoted by fire officials "a water bomber would be as effective as spitting on a bonfire" even if its 10x the size of a normal bomber, its still only going to have a very limited effect and would only likely be used to protect key infrastructure, nothing will stop this fire except mother nature.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

You know this because? The major reason why BC doesn't use it in the interior is because it can't use the vast majority of lakes. I think the cbc news article it can only use around 100 lakes compared to 1700 smaller aircraft can use.

If there is no body of water conviently nearby it has a longer round trip, having to refuelling more often so it may not be able to drop a larger volume of water overall.

But I'm sure the experts actually fighting the fire don't really want to do a good job and haven't thought of these things.
