In the end, I moved my 0803 to the rear, I have tint but you can up the E/V to compensate and I bought the newer mini 0806 for the front.

Both are excellent quality and very discreet, the base stays on the glass and the camera just slides in and out if you want to take them off when parked.

Hardwiring is easy, buy the hardwire kit from Amazon for $15 and then just use a fuse tap, the cameras now switch on and off with my ignition.

Google "Techmoan" he gives great reviews on dashcams :-)

In the end, very happy I stuck with the Mini series.
Does the mini 0806 use the same base as the 0803?

I'm using a lexar microsd card with my thinkware dual setup. It has worked great for the last 6 months.

I got a Compustar 2 way dash came recently installed on the X5M from Autotemp. The price was $269 which seemed decent but sounds like I got ripped off on the install maybe at $160. I also had my radar detector hardwired at the same time and everything ran me $550.

I believe their labor rate has been higher typically, autotech charges 60-100 depending on the car

    BUMP!

The Blackvue DR430-2CH is going on sale for $250 on boxing day @ Best Buy.

    Is it worth the upgrade?

I picked-up a Blackvue from the original group buy but I haven't gotten around to installing it when I switched cars around 2 years ago..

I've missed a lot a funny shit now that I don't have a cam in my car!

I notice that quite a few dash cams technically have pretty high resolution. However, the image quality that I've seen so far has been pretty bad. Not sure if it's a CCD or compression issue (or both).

Can anyone recommend dash cams with good image quality/sharpness/definition?

Something that deals well with both day and night conditions would be cool.

I went with this one in dual channel, quality is good:

This one is a model up, superior night time video quality:

Has there been any consensus yet as to the best/most popular dash cam set up for front/rear? Everyone seems to have something different so kind of hard to keep track.

I originally was going to purchase the Blacksys CH-200 but something to do with it didn't have the certifications at the time for Canadians standards, BlackBoxMyCar took it off the website so I ended up going with the ThinkWare F770 2 Channel WiFI Front/Rear kit

Back in the day, when it was only Blackvue in the dash cam game, they were the best, but now theres so many competitors, theres many better options for pricepoint now I believe. Thinkware is a good contender.

I'm running a Blackvue DR-650-2CH and a Thinkware F800 Pro in the other car.
Depends on what additional features you want.
Had the Blackvue for along time now and for the other car I was going to buy the DR-750-2CH but I went with the Thinkware as it had more features and better night time footage.
Both units will let me pull footage to my phone via direct wifi.
Not sure about the the Blackvue but the Thinkware lets me upgrade the firmware was well via direct wifi.

I got the F800 from Best Buy on Black Friday for $299 and am happy with it. As far as I know it's the same internals as the F800 Pro except that it doesn't have the built in Cloud capabilities. It's still on sale for the same price.

One thing I've learned over the years of watching dashcam reviews and footage, almost none of them will actually get a plate # around here, just due to road and atmospheric conditions.

So fuck the resolution and just get something that will record the accident/foolishness and with good durability.

Probably because uploading to youtube and like sites kills the quality? I can see plates perfect in my videos

On a clear day sure. What about when an accident is more likely to happen, eg, night time/snow storm/raining/dirty plate, etc. etc.
