The gist.
The project is based in Edmonton on Whyte ave and 109st, by cafe Mosaics, an awesome cafe that volunteered to play host for this years event.
The primary design goals dealt with providing a refuge for the surrounding community by creating an active space in otherwise static environment. Added to this, sustainability will play a significant role through the birth, life, and death of this parklet.
Our design provides a space for buskers to perform every Saturday through the month of July and August, ample seating, shade to combat the Edmontonian Sun, bike storage, and with the help of Edmonton Bicycle Commuters a bike hooked to a generator to power the lights and speakers keeping the space active at night.
The facade of the design utilizes reclaimed wood from an old barn which will be repurposed by habitat for humanity after the project is completed. Finally the project nods at Alberta's natural fauna by incorporating native wild flowers and grass in two separate planters.
Your vote will ultimately help us win and get a chance to bring this project to life which is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Vote BARN(E).
