G37's are heavy cars. I'd expect likely a high 5 second range at our altitude.

Also agree that anything sub 6 second is quick enough in Calgary traffic.

Aren't the V10 S6 models actually reasonably reliable? Don't quote me, but it might be worth looking into. I did some reading on them, as I was thinking about that car a few months ago.

    And before someone says it's a lambo-derived V10, no it's not.

because one of the Kijiji independent dealers uses the same wording in the ad for their S6.

Make sure the DSG fluid has been changed regularly. When working right, i'd take it over a manual any day. It smoothness and speed of upshifts are mind boggling. I would have never seen myself saying this 2 years ago.

I would stay away from it without any warranty.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Audi/BMW/MB - if youre buying these around 5 years/80,000 kms, you'd better have the money ready to drop into repairing these luxury vehicles and either know someone or be ready to do the work yourself.

For eg, a 15 year old S500 can be had for $8k but might need $4k immediately into the air suspension. Its all about how these vehicles were serviced during and after warranty.

Agreed on the G37 being slower than the S4 lol. Hell even my little Civic Si pulls on G35s no problemo haha.

I would buy the S4 if the price is right. 6mt sounds like the way to go.

Ya ya I know. ...I kind of want to go back to an Audi just for the DSG...getting really annoyed with the slow shifting of the G's auto. .

Might be worth checking if your trans has the newest software or not, there was a tsb in ~2012 that improved the shifting. Still not great, but less bad.

No, I've owned a DSG before and its just buttery smooth and if you shift manually the shifts are instantaneous like a real manual. ..like if you've ever used any kind of manu-matic based on a traditional auto like my G37 then you know it's so pointless and stupid, the dual clutch tranny is truely an automated manual tranny...sigh...I think I might go for a Q5 next.

I didn't read the whole thread but we have an S4 on our lot right now if you're still interested in buying one.

    Edit:
    Nevermind it's an A4.

Thanks for the continued comments - love it! Based on this thread l'm leaning towards a 2012 - ideally 6MT but DSG if the price is right. By that year it appears the thermostat and most of the DSG issues have been ironed out - definitely agree that it will depend on how the maintenance has been done.

Thanks for the A4 link - would definitely consider a 6MT S-Line A4 but not the auto; had one as a loaner and feels completely gutless with auto always reaching for the high gear and requiring a significant depression of the accelerator to get going (my opinion).

Have my eye on some S4's and will be checking them out in the next week. There's 1 2012 with 46K KM on it and a manual; price is a little high but that would be ideal....

I've had a C63 before the engine (hydraulic lifters) went bad on it. Thankfully I had warranty on had that... Anyways, I have a B8.5 S4 as now with warranty!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Went in a different direction - S4 too high risk and cost with all the driving I do. Went for a 2014 TL SH-AWD. Not manual but liked the way it drove - doesn't handle like the S4 but a good comprise for me - comes with CPO warranty until 130000 km. Thanks again for all the input.

Good timing on the thread, I've been considering a used s4 with dsg, I guess I'll steer clear unless I find CPO.
