    Default Definition of recession proof?

Seeing how people are being laid off and businesses are closing etc.

What is your definition of recession proof? Job or business.

    Business

    - same revenue / profit as the preceding year?
    - growth in revenue / profit ?

What % drop in sales / profit before you consider it not recession proof? Or as long as it makes money or break even?

My definition has always been, boom or bust, stay in the black.

Home & auto insurance. I think the guys that are doing mostly commercial are having a bit tougher time though.

Where did you hear this? As far as I know that is not true. They did have layoffs last fall (3% or 75~ people) but that was all mid-senior management and was more or less trimming the fat.

I think they did similar things at Fortis as well.

Although I won't say your source is wrong, I would be very surprised if it was true. Other than call centre, or maybe outsourcing an IT dept, I have heard zero rumours or talk of layoffs at Enmax.

Commercial refrigeration is recession proof. Only thing that will slow down the industry is a massive de-population or someone invents a way for people to not eat.

She's the one getting laid off.

    I figure it's not a lot of people - 40 tops.
