How much coke is he going to buy now that his salary has gone up by a factor of 10? Haha

I would say he is more of a player who can put up points when he is on a good line but is not good enough to carry a line on his own or anything. So he does well on the top 2 lines or so but will not do as great on the grinder lines playing with grinder players. The minute a top line doesn't do well, he will be the guy who gets demoted. Hes a skill guy and has good hands and can finish. I would actually be curious to see him with Mony and Gaudreau. He lit it up with the Panthers on the top line with Fleischmann a while back. I could also see this as one of the reasons he didn't sign with Edmonton as those 2 top lines seem relatively set.Originally posted by rage2
So I never followed Versteeg, but what happened to his career? He's consistently 30-40 point player (in the 50s earlier in his career), even last year scored 38 points with 2 teams, how the hell do you go from that to a PTO with the oilers and signing with us for $950k after the summer? What am I missing here?
I think its a good deal for cheap - hes from Lethbridge as well so could be a bit of a hometown factor at play.

Was written before he signed with the Flames obviously.

I'd say this is pretty accurate. He's nothing special, but puts up moderate and consistent numbers with the right players. It's a great depth scoring acquisition.Originally posted by dj_honda

Allen is the best goalie Calgary has had since Kipper. Brouwer will bring a combination of some scoring and physicality, and has the ability to move up and down the lineup if required.
Pickup of Grossman is good defensive depth too - on an already talented blueline.
I believe Calgary has a well balanced team this year. The recent pickups should pay dividends, and I wouldn't at all be surprised to see some playoff action.
I actually think the media is underestimating many of the Canadian teams. I think most have improved, and the majority have a potential shot of making the playoffs. I would have included Edmonton as the long shot, but then they had to up and get rid of their second-best player....

Agreed. Jake Allen rocks.Originally posted by Kloubek

I guess it is hard to say how good he really is, as he spent all his time behind a St. Louis team that played a typical Hitchcock style game. When you look at the comparables though, this was exactly what the dr. ordered.Originally posted by The_Rural_Juror

Should be a clearer picture now that Marty has retired.Originally posted by Kloubek

If we lose in their first game there, I don't think we will hear the end of it.
An hour long??!! Their closing ceremony was already 3 hours long!
Flames don't tend to play well after long ceremonies.
funny enough about the "he won't beat anyone with a toe drag".....the only versteeg play/highlight i can remember is him toe dragging 2 sliding players back to back right before scoring when he was on chicago i think.Originally posted by 88CRX
