Sure, but would you willingly (as an example) give up the sovereign rights Canada has and essentially put the USA in charge of EVERYTHING, including americans being able to come and go as they please with no border controls, for an extra 5% to your income?

I wouldn't Lots of the fear mongering on economic damage has too many variables to come to a reasonable conclusion. Canada and the USA operate just fine together, as does the rest of the world. There is zero reason Britain can't function, survive, and hell, even thrive on its own unless the EU seriously wants to damage Britain. Which would make no sense, as it is still a critical trading partner and their economy, in or out, is important to western Europe.
