Auto Insurance For "Uber" Drivers
Some of you may have heard recently that there is now finally an insurance solution available for people wanting to drive for Uber or other ride sharing companies. Some companies have come online effective immediately and some of them aren't quite ready yet but most will be up & running by the end of the summer. The cost and approach is varied somewhat from company to company but the general cost seems to be about $15 - $25 a month. The one condition that seems to be constant across all the companies so far is that driving time be capped at 20 hours per week. There is also a function for the insurance companies to get driver stats from Uber (or Lyft or whatever) to confirm time on the clock.
As this is new territory for the entire insurance industry I expect there will changes over the coming years (or sooner). But for now, there is finally a reasonable solution on the table.
