    Default Okanagan

Planning on going to the Okanagan for a couple of days in the first week of August. Wifey has never been (So cal girl) and I haven't been since I was a child. Need some suggestions on places (hotels and cities / towns) to stay and some wineries to hit. Any other suggestions for activities given our timetable is appreciated too.

Thinking 3 days and two nights. I know we are cutting it close for dates so availability may be an issue but we are mid week so I am hoping its not too bad.

    The cove? Manteo?
Sparkling hill caught my eye based on their website but all the folks in the photos seem a little older than us. Not sure if thats our scene.
    Walnut beach?

    Thoughts / suggestions?

I prefer the south. Oliver / osoyoos for awesome reds. Dunno what your budget is. I'm a big fan of church and state, young and wyse, covert farms, platinum bench, silver sage is generally entertaining. Jackson triggs / inniskillin surprised me with a few really good wines.

Oh I remember where sparkling hill is. Classy. Go check out ex nihilio. I like cedar creek. Quails gate, also tantalus.

If yout like big reds head south. Burrowing owl sounds about right for you.

Also if you generally drink red at home don't buy a bunch of white cause they are refreshing when it's hot as balls out.

Pretty much spot on with the vineyard recommendations. Other advice is often they have a wine region passport promo at the vineyards. If you find one they are great for creating an itinerary for you.

Some charge for tasting but refund you if you buy a bottle, so we end up buying at least one bottle each place we visit so budget accordingly.

I am a red drinker and always end up with more whites then I would like thanks to the heat.

I am a fan of the Delta Grand or the Eldorado for a place to stay.

Burrowing Owl has an excellent restaurant as well. Stayed at Walnut Beach Resort last year and it's your standard resort. I'd look for a lakeside cabin to rent if I did it again.

I also suggest Burrowing Owl, great spot to have lunch. Kettle Valley is one of my favourites.

Tinhorn Creek has a better restaurant than Burrowing Owl IMO. Wine is better too and it is close by.

They already sell out of their wines too fast, don't send more people there!!!

My favourite part is the stretch from Penticton through Summerland to Peachland.
I'm not a big Kelowna guy, seems to douchy, but its nice to grab lunch there and then get out. Vernon area isn't bad either. Mission Hill is a really cool winery to check out.

Don't diss Kelowna too much, thongs and topless (hot) chicks are a thing there now.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I've got a nice list of wineries to hit at this point.

Any suggestions for specific places to stay?

    Manteo is baller. It's awesome.

There's also Summerland hotel, which is also baller. I just don't remember what it's called.

    ^Summerland Resort, great place.

In Kelowna, Grand just had a big overhaul, Manteo is nice, and the Eldorado's new rooms are nice. Don't hang out at Earl's, and it's not douchey at all.

Sparkling Hill is nice, but pretty quiet. But if you can fit in a round at Predator, more than worth it. Played the Ridge Course there last week, unreal.

Restaurants: Bouchon's has best French I've had, and Raidz has great local fare.

Go for a hike up at the Trestles, and try Naramata Bench if you have time.

I own a place at Casa Loma resort and it is one of the best places to stay in the Okanagan in my opinion. You can rent condos, town homes or villas there. I could probably get you a decent rate on my unit for early August - shoot me a PM or call Casaloma and enquirer about #105 for availability and pricing and I can get it discounted for you.

I would highly recommend checking out the wineries in Penticton while you are there, they are a short drive away from Kelowna and I believe they are some of the most stunning. Poplar Grove is one of my favourite spots for dinner and it has an incredible view on the patio. Enjoy it out there!

    I sent you a PM

A lot of the places to stay are sold out or have x night minimum requirements. Since we are mid week and only for a couple of nights the places that do have some space dont work for us.

Delta grand is almost $400 a night (seems pricey for a Delta?) for a standard lake view room. I guess thats where we're gonna go if nothing else works out soon.
