ping spikes, dropped packets?Originally posted by Chandler_Racing
Should have been more patient and stayed with TELUS.
Stuck with Shaw and terrible latency issues on the 150Mb line.
Tried hardwiring to confirm it's not a wireless issue?

Yup it's dead simple. Unplug the old one and plug in the new one. If you have your own router, tell them before hand to put the new modem in bridge mode to deactivate the router side.Originally posted by eiysa101
Making the jump from 25 to 150 but wondering for those who did the "install" themselves - you switched out the modem & router? I also dont have the easiest access to the power outlets - are the cords the same?
If I recall, the new plug doesn't have a transformer on the end (so it's normal sized) but I will have to double check. Not everyone had the same modem before, so there could be different power cord types.
Whats the type of router they supply?
I currently have Netgear N600
https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-N600-.../dp/B0041LYY6K
Is it worth making the switch? - quite lazy to create a new network, and change my wifi networks on all my devices haha
They claim their new router is pretty good, but I have no idea how it compares to that one specifically. I think the Shaw router is AC compatible and dual band, so I would venture a guess it's better than that one. Takes 5 minutes or less to set up a router, you could just try both and run speed tests.
If you make the SSID and password identical to what it is now, I don't think you will need to change anything on your devices.
I still can't believe 150 upload. Damn. I'm at work and will be back in the Red Deer area later this week. Have to see if mine changed!Originally posted by Rarasaurus
I am now seeing 168 for both download and upload on the Telus 150. So they must have upgraded it today. I did not have to call, just saw the change.

U callin' me out on the internet, bro? My Cherry MX is ready to do battle.Originally posted by Khyron
Haha cute - except mine is real.
So it looks like the Hitron Modem can do up to AC1750 (1300 Mbit/s on 5Ghz band). My crappy laptop only has a network adapter that can do wireless N on 2.4Ghz. If I get something like this:

or

Will I see a vast improvement in my internet and file transfer rates?
TIA.
^Yes, I went from 30 to 100 on Telus 100 with the first option you listed.

I am on the 150mbps line, and you get more then 150 with them too, here is my speed test just now while watching the olympics.....didn't even know they were upping the upload speed too, sweetness!!!Originally posted by Mitsu3000gt
Telus also isn't matching the speeds Shaw is actually giving out as far as I know. They are just matching up to 150 Mbps.
Damn! Thats top drawer!Originally posted by eblend

Use the Hitron if your not getting atleast 150. A phone call to Shaw to make the modem unbridged and thats what im now getting.
Thanks for the help Mitsu9000 regarding the SSID naming thingy
I take it you got it all sorted out then? Good to hear.Originally posted by eiysa101

Telus just announced their counter to Shaw's offering.
150/150 with internet only / no contract pricing for 83$. Not sure what discounts are to be had on a term contract or any of that. 1TB cap though someone on reddit said if you call in and counter with the Shaw offering they may give you free unlimited data add-on.
Only in Fibre areas.
Got it connected today, $50 first year, $80 second, then $135. No contract.
I'm still 150/30 with Telus, and I have FTTH. did you have to call in to get that upload speed?
Nope. When they hooked me up today, it was running at that speed already. I was like " ", and the tech said some areas are already running, others will be soon.
