My ping sucks. Better call Shaw tomorrow to rectify. Don't mind my VPN.

I assume so haha, I have never actually been to a site where we deploy our routers, help desk peeps go out there with a console cable and we finish the DMVPN setup. I tell them to reboot the Shaw modem...and they do it, what it looks like I have no clue haha. I haven't had Shaw personally for over like 7 years so I don't know what any of their equipment actually looks like. I am talking about small sites (Show homes, construction trailers ect..I work for a builder), the bigger sites have completely different equipment, but I actually haven't gone to the shaw fiber site since they installed it, one of our other guys got that site going so I have yet to see, we use other ISPs in most of our big offices.

In my area it's a node issue. I've been dealing with drops like everyone else where the power, upload, download and internet lights will be illuminated, but the LAN light won't come on. Power cycle fixes things. I've actually swapped to be on Hitron modem #4, I'm convinced that its a flaming pile of shit. Apparently the old DPV3848v is more stable, however Shaw is in the phase of phasing that out(IMO it looks like they're trying to phase everything OTHER than the Hitron unit out) in favour of the Hitron. Rumor is that the old Cisco unit costs around $300 where the Hitron is around $80. I've also had retail and techs swear by the Hitron and say that its the best and easiest unit to work on, so who knows.

Two techs have come by and diagnosed node issues which they call "flapping". I believe there's also a firmware bug in the modem which isn't allowing the modem to grab an IP address after the node comes back online. I've run the modem in router mode just to quiet the Shaw people's accusations that my router has been the issue, and during those periods where the node drops I'll get severely reduced speeds(as low as 1mbps).

    P.S.

There's another bug out there, not sure if it's fixed with the new Hitrons...

Most of you won't notice it, but people using VPN connections for work, the hitron will drop fragmented packets...

Restarting it fixes the issue for a couple days, then something crashes on it, and it drops fragmented packets again.

Fix is to call Shaw and request a firmware downgrade. Symptoms are, your VPN will connect, simple traffic like HTTP will work, however any data transfers or continuous data streams just won't function.

Haha cute - except mine is real. We just got on the new Fibre line east of 52nd. It was showing 800 down but they adjusted it.

I've got Telus 100/30 at home at around 95/month - will be calling to switch or get the discount for sure thanks to this thread.

I just got a call from Telus last night. They offered me their 150 down for $88 per month. $10 cheaper than my current 150/30 package.

He also said that in the near future, the 150 package will have a 150 upload speed as well. Seemed like a good deal.

It was done to compete directly with Shaw.

EDIT: My current internet package is 100/25, not 150/30.

^^ Shaw is $49 1st year $79 2nd year for 180 Mbps. I'd still switch if I were you. Cheaper and faster.

Match what. Current shaw subscribers get 24 months of $80 which is less than Telus

My modem did the dumb no internet thing last night according to my nest. Had to powercycle this morning before it was back.

Yes. Told them that I was thinking of switching to Shaw, because of the 150Mb plan, and wondered, since I'm on fibre, if they could match. They did, $50 first year, $80 second, then $135. I tried it, and it was cool, but we have no need for that kind of bandwidth, so I went to 50/10 for $40 for the first year then regular price.

Sorry I made a mistake in my post. My current package is 100/25 for 98 per month.

Telus called me and is going to give me 150/150 for 88 per month.

The Shaw WideOpen 150/15 package says its 135 per month after the two years is up... or am I wrong?

Telus also isn't matching the speeds Shaw is actually giving out as far as I know. They are just matching up to 150 Mbps.

I think it's safe to say most of us in this thread with the Shaw 150 plan are getting the full 150 DL speeds or higher.

I've given up on my R7000 router can't seem to get more than 80-90 mbps DL speeds on 5ghz, upload is consistent at 15-16 mbps even after reset to default.

Making the jump from 25 to 150 but wondering for those who did the "install" themselves - you switched out the modem & router? I also dont have the easiest access to the power outlets - are the cords the same?

Should have been more patient and stayed with TELUS.

Stuck with Shaw and terrible latency issues on the 150Mb line.

I am now seeing 168 for both download and upload on the Telus 150. So they must have upgraded it today. I did not have to call, just saw the change.
