upgraded to 150, but couldnt get more than 50Mbps max on all connected devices. Finally found the issue, it was due to IPS on Sophos UTM. Had to tune it a bit, finally get 170+

Humm there must be something wrong with my setup. Getting a max of 95 last night when I got it all activated. I am going to move my router next to my desktop and try again.

    Fellow Sophos user hey?

I had to do the same... With default settings I could hit 120 down on a single connection. Tweaking got me up to 140...

Did some digging, thankfully on the latest versions snort has multi-threading enabled. Won't be able to max on a single connection, but with multiple shouldn't have any problems

Folks, don't forget that if you are using your own router, and that router's WAN port is only 100Mbps (or LAN port for that matter) you're going to get less than that down.

My router is a VM on a hypervisor running several other servers, but the router VM has a dedicated gigabit NIC and I can get 175 down to my wired computers on my LAN no problems.

They still make non gigabit WAN ports? I thought everything has been gigabit for the last 5 or so years?

So Fiber optic customers can now sign up for 150 starting today. HOWEVER, after I signed up and ran shaw speed test, I was getting 30d/15u as a result. Called them and turns out the "provisioning" or whatever that means in networking terms, is not set up for fiber optics yet so you can't actually get the advertised 150 DL speed as of yet. Should have told me before...

181 Mbps down, 17.2 Mbps up, 22.5 MB/s downloads with newsgroups

Exact same on wireless anywhere in my condo which impressed me.

Didn't someone in this thread said that Telus is 4 years out from offering anything close to 150 realistically?

Found out my switch was only a 10/100 not a gigabit. Moved everything to my office till I get some new switches. I was wondering why i was maxing out at 94 down

Yep, that's what I was told by a regional Shaw service tech. 4-5 years.

    Wired - 160 and above.
    2.4 - between 20 and 50
    5.0 - between 70 and 160.

Will keep playing around with the channels and other settings. One like the think 'auto' mode will pick the best channel!? Apple diagnostic suggested the better channels but they will fluctuate as neighbors gets on and off.

On the iphones it's crazy slow.

5Ghz and not 2.4 correct? The Shaw person said because of all the interference 2.4ghz wifi at 70mbps is more than normal.

Just think about this, 20 years ago 56.6k was all the rage.
    Will fuck off, again.
