Kudos to Shaw for rolling this out and letting existing customers in on the promotion.

Modem swap was barely more than a mild hassle, got a bunch of shit done while i was out. They even pre did the process of sending the modem into bridge mode so once I got home all i did was plug and play and it restarted a couple times and its working.

They'll match $49 for a year if you call to cancel... their cancellation line is really busy right now though, took 15 min on hold to get through.

I'm paying almost $150/mo for BB60, personal TV, a movie pack, and Discovery Velocity. This is a good deal for me. Will be switching.

I'm going to switch as well but what's with the ping 18ms?

I have 1 ms on TELUS - hope I don't regret switching off fiber.

Is 18ms high? I always thought as long as you are under 30 you are fine? I think my shaw has always been somewhere around there? I am right near their main hub as well.

That was wired from my computer to my router to my gateway to a Calgary speed test server?

Shaw is still coax cable to the home when it comes down to it so I am sure it has some downfalls compared to a pure fibre connection.

Edit: just ran a quick one from my iPhone over wifi and got 9? Might have just been my computer?

Just got a phone call from Shaw, telling me about the new deal.
    I'm currently on BB100 (but I get 120 down, 6ish up) for $103/mo

Dude said I could do 2 years at $99.00 /month. WTF?
    I'm like, "try again".
He said the 49.00 deal is for new customers.
I'm like "Yup, and the $79.90 /month for 2 years is for existing customers."
He goes away, comes back and says, yeah, the 99 deal on "your file" is for unlimited, $79 is for 1TB.
Well I don't need unlimited, 1TB is lots so yeah, $79 is fine.
IF you can give me a bridged modem.
As usual, the sales droids can't commit to that, so I tell him, if you they can't supply a bridged modem, it ain't happening.
So, we'll see how that goes.

Does Shaw modem require the tech to bridge the modem like Telus does in order to use 3rd party router?

My last 2 did require Shaw to bridge them. For 2 of my clients on Telus I was able to log in to the router and configure a port to be bridged without Telus getting involved.

So Shaw calls me tonight offering me this deal, and said I can have this deal indefinitely as long as I'm willing to keep going on 2-year contracts - BS or not? What do you think? He said he would put it in writing as well as notes on my account.

*IF* that's true, it's a good deal, but I have a hard time trusting any cable company haha.

The girl at the shaw retail store did the bridge process before I even got the gateway home. They just send a signal to the unit which activates bridge mode. The first time I plugged the new one in wifi was enabled etc. Then it automatically reset as it got the signal from shaw and booted into bridge mode.

It's pretty painless and on my last modem I did it via live chat without even picking up the phone.

Me and a couple of co-workers went down to Shaw Court this afternoon and we all changed our plans. There were a handful of people down there doing the same thing, and more were coming in. I went from Internet 60 at $95 to the 150 at $80.

They gave us the modem and told us we could bring the other one back next week. Told them to put it in bridge mode and all I had to do was plug it in when I got home. I did have to go through the Internet setup again on my router though but didn't have to reconfigure anything else.

So I'm on 120, do I still need to switch modems?

The pings doesn't mean much unless you're testing against the same IP on both ISPs. It just means Telus' speed test server is closer to your telus service than shaw's speedtest server to your Shaw service.

If you want a true comparison of pings, have both service ping 8.8.8.8 and do a comparison.

Just signed up. I tried and tried to get the new customer rate, but they weren't having it.

    Old Plan:

    BB60
    Popular TV
    Movies Theme Pack
    Discovery Velocity
    $176/mo

    New Plan:

    BB150
    Popular TV
    Movies Theme Pack
    Discovery Velocity
    $163/mo

Basically, I just over doubled my internet speed and saved a few bucks a month. I have their latest modem, so she was able to do a reset on their end and unlock the new speeds for me in less than 2 minutes. No service visit required.

Called Telus to see what they could offer me to be lazy and stay.. Told they will probably have a competing offer come out on Monday.

I just called them and they told me it'd be $9 a month more because I have BB60, which means I need to go to BB150+, which doesn't have a data cap. I told them I didn't care about the cap, I was calling to save money so just give me the regular 150. Nope, wouldn't do it.

Fuck these jokers. If Telus comes out with something comparable I'll probably switch on principle at this point.

This will be interesting especially since they offer up 100 (more than what I need anyways). What they told me on the phone was (maybe a sales pitch) but that the 100 level is a dedicated line and wouldn't be shared like Shaw?

Basically they offered me $45/month for the Telus 100 for a year without contract.

Sounds like Monday will be decision day.
