Having the same Hitron issue. Modem will "reset" but won't autoconnect without a power cycle. It's booted me off a few times in the afternoons, and I was down first thing this morning. I wasn't aware I could have shaw reboot the modem for it.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I hope they fix this soon because I don't mind outages but if my router doesn't get IP back, it will be annoying dealing with my cameras when I'm out of town.

Both comes in 2am timeframe which tells me Shaw is doing something with their maintenance window. And Shaw had a major outage for me just last week as well.
You can check the Shaw Service Updates page for planned maintenance windows.

Shaw has been fixing the bufferbloat problem for the past while.

Mine when out last Thursday and I think they fixed my node because my bufferbloat rating went from C to A.

Just give them a call. Could be a node-related issue.

AS an update apparently there is an extension to this offer for students:

55 dollars a month for 8 months with valid student verification, no term contract.

    http://www.shaw.ca/student/?semid=na...id=19445571973

    Pretty good deal.

Same here. My laptop is almost 3 years old, but still works great, especially after I replaced the hard drive with a Samsung Evo SSD, and put a 2TB drive in the optical bay.

My only complaint after getting Shaw 150 is, I almost always use the laptop on wireless, and the wireless card only works on the 2.4GHz band, and doesn't support wireless AC.

Ordered a new Intel AC card to fix that.

Shaw modems seem to be kind of wonky in general. At work we use Cisco ISR routers with Shaw business lines, and whenever we do the final config to get the routers on VPN from the various sites, the shaw modem always seems to need a reboot to get going. We program the static ip into the router, but nothing actually works until the modem resets.

The issues people are describing with their modems going out sound like the issues that made me finally switch a while back away from them...wife wasn't too happy when the internet would cut out middle of her online exams when she was in school..definitely depended on location, as I was with Shaw in Braeside (randomly disconnected once in a while), pretty solid downtown, and was once or twice a week in Evergreen.

One thing I hope this does is start pushing down cellular data rates in Canada.

Assuming that Shaw now has the capacity to run full unimpeded 150 mbit to all of their 2.4 and 5GHZ (free for subs) wifi hotspots.

    https://www.shaw.ca/wifi/hotspots/

Seriously $10 per GB is too expensive. They have had unlimited GB cellular in the US for years now.

Interestingly when I was in BC I found ShawOpen was available quite frequently. In Kelowna, in Vancouver, and even in the interior BC when we stopped for food.

I did a speed test on a Shaw open WiFi hotspot yesterday around 4th st downtown and got spikes up to 100Mbps. I was quite impressed, I did not think they were anywhere near that fast.

Depends on the saturation. Connect to the wrong one downtown, and you can't even load Google. Very frustrating when you're walking around.

The worst ones are near food courts, coffee shops, or sitting areas.

8/10 hotspots are saturated. It's not helping when I'm streaming music or playing Pokemon. I actually turn wifi when I'm moving.

This one was near a Starbucks, several restaurants/pubs, a gym, hotel, and tons of people were around both on the street and in the establishments - I can't imagine them getting much more crowded. Maybe malls would be worse.

I share LDS's experience. I frequently have to disable wifi downtown because the ShawOpen hotspots are garbage and I get a way better experience on LTE.
