Not a fan of therebel, but here they clearly show 3 occasions when the NDP were warned of the PPA agreements, going back to the leaders debate before they were even elected!
I hate The Rebel - absolute propaganda garbage... HOWEVER - they are sometimes the only source that has the "real" clips demonstrating what actually happened, so I guess for their cataloging they have a purpose, but their dramatic narrative is often far fetched and not even noteworthy. So I do see their purpose, like in that clip dirtsniffer.
... However on a side note/off topic, Sheila Gunn Reid... something about her is hot

One more because it's Friday!
SUN: NDP excuses on power play hard to swallowThe escape clause has also been discussed in the legislature at least twice since the NDP took over as government.
And last May, when Deputy Energy Minister Grant Sprague stepped down unexpectedly, the explanation circulating
under the dome was that Sprague was fed up that his warnings about the impact of the climate change plan on the
escape clause were ignored again and again.
All of this makes Hoffman’s insistence that the NDP just didn’t know hard to swallow.

The Energy Minister rejected speculation Sprague left the government allegedly because his advice regarding the termination of power purchase arrangements (PPAs) was disregarded when the NDP government launched its climate change plan.

So can someone with a clue explain why this would lead to lower profitability for Enmax as opposed to them just increasing rates?
It doesn't. It would just mean that they (utility) would be on the hook for making up 51% of the power gen in Alberta which is abut 7GW production.Originally posted by googe

To build that much in 4 years is absolutely outrageous. It would be an ask to make that up in 14 years.
Couple that with "we will just buy it in" doesn't make sense, because no one has that much standing reserve, nor do we have the transmission lines to support that amount of power coming in.
The whole thing doesn't make much sense.

So just curious...
Let's say we did get something organized... Who would want to get involved? Who could spread word that we are going to do this?
Biggest problem is spreading the word and organizing, getting everyone to go at the same time. We'd have to coordinate this, and we'd have to get a big enough group pledging to go... Most people would only show up if they knew there would be a big turn out...
Also, we'd need to make sure the super angry people won't shoot off their mouths and look dumb, push the fact that this is a demonstration requesting change, and not a big hate fest. If we ever did get something big, we'd want to make sure we look educated, and not just a mob.

Well, you'd need a facebook group. You'd need a core group of people. And you'd need SOME financial backing (even a few grand) to get further advertising (all IMO).Originally posted by Zhariak

And you'd need to get everyone to share the time/date on their various social media accounts.
The problem is, protesting is kind of stupid. It actually doesn't DO anything. The Liberals and NDP bow down to protesters because it gets them the votes they want. The media silence would be deafening. You'd need to work with some of the political parties I reckon.
Conservatives inherently disagree with a lot of the causes being promoted by the people protesting as of late, so they don't join in. Its not really a conservative ideology to protest, instead, the ideology inherently seeks to DO something about it (through business or politics). The NDP will get kicked out by the next election. Protesting won't quicken that. There are better ways to undermine and wreck the NDP then by doing a protest.
It's kind of like an idea about journalism I recently read; of course most journalists are liberal, because they go and take a liberal arts education (journalism). Conservative journalists? Business and financial degrees.
