Default Parking motorcycle on sidewalk. Yes or no?

I've never done it as I always park in the parking lot.

But what I have seen is more and more bikes parking on the sidewalk, usually in a plaza or something of the sort where there are large sidewalks.

Without going into the legalities of it all, is this slowly turning into an appropriate thing to do?

If given the opportunity to park on the sidewalk, would you do it if there is ample amounts of room and it's out of the way of foot traffic?

As long as it's tucked out of the way and not impeding foot traffic I don't see the issue.

Unless there's a dedicated spot that's indicated with a sign or something, nope. I really don't care if other people do it though.

You just need to ask yourself, what would snowpussy do?

Only done it with sport bike and only where there is a huge sidewalk and and out of the way place to do it. Used to do it at chinook but there is dedicated parking up by BP's now so been parking there since they put it in.

I avoid parking on the sidewalks in the core, only because CPA will ticket for it.

Other wise, I follow Masked Bandit's approach. More space for cars to park and less risk of someone bumping your bike.

But I also think lane splitting should be legal...

It's basically the same as when a truck parks half on a sidewalk or snow bank.

I would never do it myself here, unless I felt it was was far enough out of the way as to not hurt any ones precious feelings.
But I see zero issue with it as long as it is done in a manner that does not impede foot traffic. I believe logical practices like this are much more common in other parts of the world where most people do not have their heads up their asses.

I do it as well, at malls and plazas that have enough space and doesn't impede pedestrian traffic. Nobody ever seems to mind. In fact, it usually ends up with people complimenting the bike as they go by.
Never done in downtown before though. Probably wouldn't either, considering the amount of pedestrian traffic

I think the old spaghetti factory shut that down 2-3 years ago.

I've never done it, but I would take Masked Bandit's approach (outside the core)

Pretty much all the off-street next to the sidewalk free parking for bikes is gone from the core. Really sad as I am sure a lot more people would ride if we had it back.

Also lane splitting. No hesitation to ride daily taking my truck off the road if we had lane splitting, but alas we do not so you all can sit behind me as im just one more vehicle in traffic slowing everyone down.

Yea you are right. the other day I was walking a street or two over from there and the CPA had two guys ticketing bikes that were partially hanging out past the edge of the parking area. So I think they are really strict with bikes downtown.

I still can't believe motorcycle parking isn't free downtown. I don't even ride and I'd like to see it free to encourage more people to ride than drive. Maybe that would be a better solution to the memorial congestion than what the city has come up with....

Until they legalize filtering, more bikes on the road will make a negligible difference to congestion, if any at all. But this is Canada, so we for sure won't let riders ever filter, cause why would we do something practical like that.

Had a rider filter during heavy traffic yesterday. Nobody honked, nobody cut him off. It was the miracle on Memorial. I mean, I'm sure he'll end up on 4 different YouTube channels as Calgary's Worst Driver Ever?! but we'll all be on those soon enough.

I've parked the bike on many sidewalks in my time, but always aware of foot traffic and people who think that its appropriate to sit on someones bike. Good visibility is nice.

When possible, I've tried to place the bike near other motorbikes or bicycles. Dont want to stand out too much either.

Chinook mall security actually like you doing it, if its out of the way of foot traffic as it gives more parking spaces to bigger vehicles.

If anyone is parked on 3rd street by spaghetti factory they just showed up with two flat beds from city wide, I think they are towing the whole lot due to construction. Hopefully no one here is parked there.

**edit: looks like the only towed a few so maybe just didn't pay but seemed odd
