Swear I saw something about that.... anyway, if you keep the run off from going into the drains, then it's fine from what I've heard.
Yes. That was me when I used to live in a different part of Coventry. Because it was no longer going down the drain, the bylaw officer couldn't do anything as I wasn't breaking any laws. My asshole neighbour who kept reporting me had steam coming out of his ears while I just smiled and flipped him off. It was glorious.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

I wash on my driveway as well. No concerns about runoff at all, I'm on a quiet culdesac and I'm not sure anyone cares?

I always wonder why wash soap is an issue, but whatever shit I put on my lawn is ok, or wash my house with, or what the city uses on the roads and boulevards.....

The issue is that if 300,000 drivers suddenly started to dump phosphates and other soapy chemicals into the river, there would be issues for those downstream who use the water.

In places like the West Coast, there is just so much water flowing everywhere that its not a real concern apparently.

    Many soaps contain phosphates.

Bylaw can issue you a $3,000 ticket if use soap and it gets into a drain.

Old article but I think it still applies:

Actually its a $500 first offence, and it states you CAN wash your car, but it must be with water only........so anyone with a wash mitt can just mix soap in the bucket with little splashing and its good

I do like how it says "and your car cannot be overly dirty". Well, when it rains, all of that "overly dirty" is going down the storm sewers anyhow.....I know its to prevent mudders from leaving piles of clay in the drainage curbs, but thats subjective!

Water just can't reach the sewers so we just need to find a sandbag method of some sort (without actually using sandbags) anyone have a recommendation?

Thats where I'm fortunate. I'm almost the furthest lot from the storm sewer drain, and like yesterday, the water never even made it half way there before evaporating.

The silly part about what you're saying is that it shouldn't matter if it makes it to the drain or not, the detergents don't evaporate, they'll be back when the rain water washes the residue down the drain!

oh I was thinking more so to block off the water and divert it to the lawn.

I wash mine in the driveway all the time using the two bucket method with the grates from Carzilla (mentioned already)
I go to the wand wash first to get the grit off then use the ONR to hand wash then continue with Poorboys show glaze and sealant.

    Never had any issues.

Probably best if you are going to do it. Funny thing is "biodegradable" is a such a loose term. I know for backcountry camping it is suggested to move about 60m or so from any watercourse and dig a hole to pour your soapy water in. Biodegradation of the soap takes a while but disposing of it on soil will allow the process to occur much faster than into a watercourse.

I can definitely see the frustration though when someone gets ticketed $500 for washing their car while a neighbor is green dropping their lawn every couple of weeks!

Not sure how a (not a ban) reduced phosphate, machine dishwasher and laundry detergent affects driveway car washing with car care chemicals.

By 2010, all laundry and dishwasher detergents, and "if warranted" in some general household cleaners sold in Canada, will contain no more than 0.5 per cent phosphates by weight.....At the moment, the phosphorus limit in laundry detergent is 2.2 per cent.

There is no outright Phosphate "ban" in Canada, as you stipulated previously.
